• Advocate for the System’s 15 academic and health institutions on a wide range of policy issues, including energy, health care, research administration, higher education reform, and appropriations.• Serve as spokeswoman for the UT System to federal agency administrators, congressional staff, trade associations, and executive branch officials.• Responsible for identifying, researching, and reporting legislative activity and research funding opportunities to the university community.• Organize and host annual conference for the heads of research of the System’s institutions about the appropriations process, current policy debates, and grant opportunities.• Travel to Texas often, visiting the campuses, to stay up-to-date on the research they are doing and relay that information back to Capitol Hill and federal agencies.

• Research, analyze, and advise on legislation involving telecommunications, transportation, commerce, science, space, technology, port security, foreign relations, and education policy.• Write legislative issue memoranda, event briefs, letters, floor speeches, and talking points.• Negotiate and develop strategies with staffers of both parties, lobbyists and stakeholders regarding legislation, appropriations requests, and advocacy efforts.
