I am a mechanical engineer focused on innovating next-generation robotic devices. I graduated from Wentworth Institute of Technology with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, and am currently pursuing a M.S. in Mechanical Engineering with a focus in robotics product design. I have worked at iRobot for over 5 years. My work has primarily been on the R&D team focusing on next generation platform development. Most of which has not been released publicly, but is currently shaping the next generation of robots that have yet to be released. I engineer solutions to automate, eliminate, and improve the issues that cause frustration in everyday life. I am especially interested in designing accessible technologies. My experience in consumer products has taught me to conceptualize new ideas, evaluate and strategically reduce risk, and either see a solution to completion or draw the line and refocus on a new approach. My long-term goal is to lead an innovative team to research new ideas and efficiently determine the path toward sustainable products. I believe there are bountiful everyday challenges which can be solved through robotic design. Too many designers develop robots only for the lab environment. My experience building mass-market robots has trained me to focus on deployment and commercial feasibility.

Mechanical EngineerIrobot Mar 2021 - Mar 2024Bedford, Massachusetts, UsResponsible engineer for next generation robotic dry cleaning system, improving overall cleaning performance, resulting in a substantial 20% reduction in system complexity and cost, while achieving a notable increase in cleaning effectiveness and customer satisfaction. This was a result in part to a new and improved extractor design (patent pending) that was developed.Manager of ME interns, reviewed resumes and conducted interviews to hire interns for 4 and 6 month internships, delegated tasks and ensured productivity by setting deadlines, and assisted in career development through weekly meetings and interdisciplinary design challenges.Created a detailed calculator to evaluate and simulate CG movement based on how individual parts in the robot moved in new robot design, which expedited development (saved 1 month on the back end of testing) and ensured confidence in design. Was standardized to be used with any product and used across programs.Evaluated gearbox and motor performance to reduce overall complexity of the gearbox (~10%), improve motor life through alternate motor selection, and reduce cost (~20%) while improving system performance.Successful project management of several internal robot builds, of up to 100 robots, managing a team and schedule, making sure inventory was available, diagnosing issues, making sure the hand built robot fleet was up and running to enable evaluation of robots.Investigated methods to improve side brush on robot vacuums with alternate design, materials such as lower and higher durometer rubbers, and different plastic designs. Engineered the Outershell of the Roomba j9 to be able to house new debugging units, accommodate changes for new compute modules, design for manufacturing to ensure proper injection molding in collaboration with APAC teams. Developed drawings using GD&T practices. -
