Andrew is a well-respected figure in the UK outdoor media industry and has been an active ambassador for taxi advertising since the late 70s, when he took the helm of his father’s business, Barnett’s Taxi Advertising. Back in 1958 his family’s black cab company became the first to offer commercial branding opportunities on taxis, in the form of TipSeat panels. That format was the first of many innovations that would come to the market between 1980 and present day; all of which have been created by Andrew or his fellow board directors at Ubiquitous.Andrew is a great ‘people person’; honesty and decency lie at the heart of his personal and professional relationships; both qualities that he has successfully instilled in those who work for him. Sure he can be pedantic, but that’s because he cares about the details.Specialties: • Building businesses• Relationship management• Leadership• Idea generation• Mediation and negotiation

Chief Executive OfficerUbiquitous Ltd 2005 - PresentLondon, United KingdomBy the time I resolved to open the doors at Ubiquitous I had close to thirty years’ taxi experience; it’s fair to say that taxis are in my blood. To get the ball rolling on the new business I joined forces with Micky Harris, a much-valued member of the team at Barnett’s; we agreed that if we were to do it all again, we’d do it differently and better. Our aims were many, not least to earn enough money to pay the staff we would need (we now employ close to 40 people across the operations and media offices), to improve the profile of the taxi sector, provide a better class of service to agencies and clients, and ultimately, go from start up to market leader in as little time as possible (we achieved it in five years).I have always believed that it’s vital to lead rather than follow, so I continue to lobby local councils for greater flexibility in branded taxi regulations and pitch new format proposals to them. The Megaside and the Flexiside are the most recent formats that we’ve brought to the market and we’ve just been granted permission by Transport for London to trial a new high profile taxi branding opportunity in late 2011. Thirty plus years in the business and I am still inspired, challenged and frustrated by it, but most of all I still love it. -
Md Barnett'S Taxi Advertising (2000-2003), Deputy Md, Billboards (2003-2004)Clear Channel Outdoor 2000 - 2004A new millennium and a challenge! A key part of the acquisition of Barnett's by Clear Channel was the requirement for me to oversee the integration of taxis into the Clear Channel portfolio and to impart sector knowledge and insight to the team there. I was no more than 12 months into the role when Clear Channel made another significant acquisition: Taxi Media; Bob Burnett had finally sold us ‘the competition’. After managing the merger of first one, then two taxi operations, I moved into mainstream outdoor as Deputy MD of Billboards for a year, before leaving the organisation to take some time to consider an important question: what next?

DirectorBarnett'S Taxi Advertising 1978 - 2000London, United KingdomI founded Barnett’s Taxi Advertising with my father when I was in my early twenties; our aim was to create a viable business offering advertising opportunities on taxis. Primarily we pitched direct to clients, but as time passed and further branding opportunities were created, (single and then double doors), we forged relations with media agencies and started to pitch taxis as a strategic part of the outdoor mix.By 1990 the business had grown ten-fold; liveries had established themselves as a high profile opportunity and both Barnett’s and our nearest rival, Taxi Media (run at the time by current Ubiquitous board Director Bob Burnett) were operating thriving businesses in a growing market. In 2000, Barnett’s was sold to Clear Channel, but not before we had launched yet another advertising format to the market: the SuperSide, which has become the cornerstone of the entire taxi sector.
