Responsible for implementing an OHS management system in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine including; compliance audits, hazard assessment and control forms, routine inspections, incident investigations, training requirements assessments and emergency response.- Identified and evaluated key safety gaps in academic fieldwork programs offered to faculty members and students. Created the initial framework to address these gaps and mitigate the risks. This framework became a model for other faculties to emulate within the university.- Developed a new Laboratory Safety Course with a working group. Taught the course monthly to 30 – 120 employees.

Ottawa, On

Assist the HSR Manager with the preparation and implementation of a Faculty Environmental Health, Safety & Risk Management System to ensure protection of the environment and the health and safety of all persons working and studying at the Faculty of Science. A member of the Facilities Management Team.Accomplishments- Mentored by a world expert in laboratory safety and Laboratory Safety Institute Instructor.- Managed the hazardous waste program for the Faculty of Science. Developed the Hazardous Waste Materials Procedures document. Destroyed hazardous products.- Created a training records database system. The system also managed access to 8 research buildings and all restricted facilities in the Faculty of Science.- Consulted and Implemented a Health and Safety program in the Faculty of Medicine. (80h project)- As the External Workgroup Package Leader during the initial project management phase of HECHMET (A Canadian Research and Technology Initiative), lead a team of professionals from multiple universities (Queen's University, Concordia University, Royal Military College, University of Ottawa and the RCMP) with the initial development of promotional materials. (2009 – 2010) The HECHMET project went on to win the 2013 CAUBO Award - National First Prize for Quality and Productivity.- Taught Laboratory and Fire Safety courses to staff and students.- Performed duties of the Health, Safety and Risk Manager during a long term leave. (5 months)- First Responder to a myriad of hazardous materials and workplace incident emergencies. Reported workplace incidents and performed workplace incident investigations.

Was responsible for the safe collection, storage, processing and shipping of hazardous materials including chemical and biological waste generated by academic, research and administrative departments on campus. An Environmental Health and Safety Officer.Accomplishments- Responded to an incident where my actions saved a person’s legs.- Created an innovative new system to transfer hazardous waste between buildings on campus.- Developed the university’s PCB policy and procedure draft documents.

Developed and managed a campus wide pressurized gas cylinder inventory and monitored cylinder safety practices. Updated Material Safety Data Sheets and WHMIS records.Accomplishments- Created Laboratory Safety Bulletins on designated substances as outlined in the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act.
