I have experienced many areas of Flight Operations in my diverse career. I understand and have experienced a high safety and professional standard and take that knowledge to my employment working with teams to make a difference. Knowing where a safety culture can be is very important.I was employed with Allegiant Airlines as a Regulatory Compliance Specialist - Flight Operations (position reduced Oct 01, 2020 due to industry downturn). My position afforded me the opportunity to work with the FAA and other regulatory agencies for the flight department, dispatch, stations, OCC, and in-flight. This position allowed me to gain more knowledge of many departments in the company. I have experience in auditing and completed the 5 day IOSA audit course with Argus. My experience also includes years as an instructor and technical writing in a number of aviation related courses and pilot training. I am a pilot with Air Canada, however I no longer qualify for the required medical certificate. I continue to service my industry through aviation safety via avenues including SMS development and aviation course instruction such as simulator and classroom instruction. My Masters Paper entitled "Implementing a Safety Management System from the Human Perspective" focused on the importance of the individual in a robust safety management system. My paper acknowledges the vast material available on how to develop an SMS, but not much literature on how to grow the safety culture. Using concepts developed at Southwest Airlines on how to facilitate a people friendly atmosphere in work culture, I further those concepts and discuss theories and practices which move people from extrinsic based rationality to a high level of intrinsic rationality. The employee embraces safety within the industry not because they have to, but because they want to.
