As the Institute’s Group Manager for the Circular Economy I led the development of innovations that maximise resource efficiency through manufacturing and process optimisation. Core areas of focus included development of the concept of zero waste Lithium Ion Battery manufacture and commercialisation of the required processes and net zero cement and geopolymer material development including carbon saving validation. My team and I also focused on commercialisation of pyro- and hydrometallurgical techniques that can extract critical minerals from waste supporting the emergence of a strong secondary market for raw materials that the UK does not retain naturally.A further area of research was into the decarbonisation and increased circularity of the foundation industries including several successful grant applications into different Innovate UK funding calls.
