Finetech Medical is part of Amber Therapeutics along with BioInduction. Together they manufacture active medical implants for a range of therapies.

This engineering consultancy works within the Aircraft, Military, Food, Research and Automotive industries among others. It specialises in advising on manufacturing methods and developing products for cost effective manufacture.

Responsible for all non-research aspects of this market research company, including the accountancy, IT systems, contracts & compliance with the data protection and our professional body’s rules.

Maztech was a fast moving innovative precision engineering company that invested in the latest machining technology. The company worked within a 9001 Quality System and had clients in many industries across the uk.

This start-up business which arranged voluntary personal insolvencies, IVAs quickly built into a company employing about 110 people. Here I streamlined and automated the processing of IVAs in order to reduce the time from initial sales enquiries to creditors’ meetings and court papers. At the same time, I started the Financial Services arm of Money Debt & Credit. I built the business by analysing & enhancing the database of past enquiries to generate new business.

Part of a small management team, started the subsidiary sales-based call centre in Glasgow, Chorus Direct. Initially we sold and fulfilled mobile phones on contracts. Acting as the subsidiary’s Managing Director, we grew this to employ around 100 people running multiple sales campaigns with the likes of Virgin, Carphone Warehouse, the Post Office, AIG and Talk Talk. This was a surprisingly technical roll as we were using cutting edge dialler technology and were pioneers of voice over internet protocol (VOIP) technology. During this time under my direction our IT department developed a call centre ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system which was very effective at improving efficiency. We successfully sold Chorus Direct in 2005. After this, I headed Data Locator Interactive, our on-line marketing arm, which had been under performing; the business was turned around by using a strategy model we had developed for the Group. The Group was successfully sold to a private equity firm in 2006 for £32.5M.

I was a London based Financial Advisor initially with Abbey Life, then becoming an IFA in 1999, specialising mainly in pensions. This was a sales environment with a high level of regulatory compliance.

I played a pivotal role in increasing the efficiency & quality of the manufacture of leading edge scientific instruments for the military by day-to-day trouble-shooting combined with the long term development of manufacturing and management processes. I introduced several statistical techniques for problem solving and quality improvement to the business. The demand for our instruments, which detected nerve gas, rose suddenly during the Gulf War. As part of a small team of production engineers I helped increase production from 30 per week to 250 per week while improving quality all the time. This was achieved by securing a consistent quality of components, improving tooling and processes, but most of all by improving the operators/technicians/team leaders’ understanding of the expectations the company had of them.

Sponsored through University by BAe (Dynamics), as an Undergraduate Engineer I gained experience of electro-mechanical production in the missile manufacturing plant in Stevenage. I spent time in the PCB plant, machine shop, chemi-metallurgy lab’, electron microscopy lab’, and gyroscope division.My dissertation was on manufacturing fault prevention and my final job was implementing a tool management system to the gyroscope division.
