California State Railroad Museum

At the Statewide Museum Collections Center I operate more or less as a curatorial assistant with the collection of the California State Railroad Museum. Beyond basic organization and inventory of the collection, I am primarily responsible for improving intellectual data of the objects in storage, including records reconciliation for objects with unknown sources. I update object descriptions and locations in the TMS collection management database and catalog the majority of new acquisitions. To date, I have catalogued approximately 1,000 objects and inventoried/improved records for another 10,000 objects. Additional tasks include rehousing objects, cleaning objects, and constructing mounts/supports for unstable objects. As a Capital District employee, my assistance has also extended to other Park units. I have assisted with several projects in the Sutter's Fort SHP collection, including mounts for sections of a Sutter's Fort diorama constructed by artist Jo Mora. I have also aided in the general organization and maintenance of the Governor's Mansion SHP collection, which was recently removed from permanent display. In this position, I also spent a few days a month at the California State Railroad Museum Library. Tasks included entering data into the InMagic collection database (used to track the Railroad Museum archives), scanning documents/donor records, and retrieving and refiling materials for researchers. As for the Railroad Museum itself, I led a group effort to implement a new TMS location hierarchy for tracking objects on display.Relevant Courses Completed:- TMS Advanced Training- Museum Collections Management Basic Training
