My journey as an athlete has shaped me as a person. As a young man, I was a professional athlete on paper, but in reality, I was barely hanging on. I made the decision to get out of my home comforts and move away to find out who I really was. The first year away was very tough and I was still stuck in the same patterns of behavior that threatened a promising career. Thankfully, there were some great people around me, that gave me their time and mentoring. I knew I had to peel back the layers of myself, to set a foundation for the journey to come.Over the next few years, I applied behaviors and habits into my life that would be the building blocks to reaching my potential as an athlete. Alongside a huge amount of hard work on the training pitch, I started using meditation and journalling as tools to enhance my athletic performance. I was amazed at the benefit and impact on not just my performance on the pitch, but on me as a person. I started to have control of my internal narrative, and felt for the first time that I had ownership of my destiny. Gratitude, self talk and manifesting (if your work output is in line with your vision) became real to me. My career was filled with plenty of highs and lows, but I wouldn't change a thing. I went on the achieve what I set out to. I reached my potential as an athlete and became a better person.So what's next? The last 12 months have been filled with reflection, thought and action.I have just started a Professional Doctorate in Human Performance and Innovation. I want to understand Human Performance from an educational perspective, alongside my own experiences. I am very excited to be launching my business soon. Work has already started with some of Ireland's most elite athletes, putting unique systems and frameworks in place, to enhance their ability to access the holy grail of performance.
