BMD is a multi-disciplinary brand and design studio. I had the opportunity to work on a variety of different projects including creating brand identities, signage and wayfinding, editorial design, and design for digital and physical spaces. I had the opportunity to be under the mentorship and guidance of an Accounts Director who taught me the art of client services and gave me the opportunity to learn the in’s and out’s of project management by doing, rather than just watching. While at Bruce Mau Design I supported the design team by handling day-to-day project management duties on 7 brand development projects simultaneously; duties included developing vendor agreements; creating timelines and budgets; maintaining information flow to all stakeholders; and defining milestones and final deliverables.

Clifton Hill is one of the busiest tourist destinations in the world attracting visitors from all around the globe. I started in the attractions department which included: The Fun House, The Haunted House, Guinness World Records Museum, Bronto's Adventure Playland, Mystery Maze, and Big Top Mirror & Laser Maze. I worked as a Sales Associate before being promoted to an Attractions Supervisor. After my tenure in the Attractions department, I decided to move to Food & Beverage and worked as a server in the diner-style, fast-paced Family Restaurant.I know I was a great server who provided exceptional table service showcased by having received dozens of personalized 5-star reviews on Google and Yelp. I catered the experience to each patron and always checked to make sure the quality of the food I was serving was superb. I got to know my tables, offered suggestions, and always engaged in small talk when the table signified they wanted to. I also recognized when to keep my distance and not disturb a family dining experience.I gained additional responsibility over time and assisted the manager in writing a new menu by providing edits to meal descriptions to align with the brand voice. I also had supervisory duties that required me to handle cash transactions, ensure health and safety standards were met, train new servers, and close and lock up the restaurant.

This role was one of the first leadership positions I held. I coordinated a team of 40 sales associates across 7 tourist attractions and provided a friendly and informed response to any service or operational-related issues and inquiries. I opened and closed all 7 attractions and was responsible for ensuring the float and safes were balanced at the end of each shift. I also had to complete administrative duties such as creating daily reports that documented ticket sales, combo sales, merchandise sales, and foot traffic through all 7 attractions. Writing incident reports and responding to urgent matters including lost parents, missing children, injuries within attractions, and fire alarms. I also had the opportunity to interview potential candidates to fill the roles of sales associate and street maintenance.

This was the first job I held, and I had such a fun time in this role. I gave great customer service demonstrated by having received scores of 100% from 9 different secret shopper reports. I was primarily stationed in the Guinness World Records Museum and The Fun House which were the two busiest locations. I was placed here because I could handle the volume of guests (1000+ guests 300+ transactions a shift) while remaining calm and pleasant. I also trained new sales associates on effective sales techniques and how to operate each attraction.

This committee was assembled to conduct the hiring process for the new Chair of Creative Industries. It consisted of 7 tenured faculty members, 2 student representatives (1 of them being myself), and the dean of The Creative School. This was a great opportunity to experience the hiring process that goes into selecting a candidate for an executive-level equivalent position. In the end, the committee had to make a recommendation to the Dean and then the Vice Provost. Throughout the process I performed extensive background research on short-listed candidates; read through 30-page applications that included a resume, CV, cover letter, lists of academic publications, teaching reports, and portfolios of work; instigated critical conversations about potential candidates’ ability to effectively represent the program; and participating in the interview process where I asked questions of candidates regarding their interpretation of the unique interdisciplinary program.

The Academic Integrity Council conducts disciplinary hearings to investigate accusations of academic misconduct to determine appropriate disciplinary action and documents the decision in official decision letters. As a student member I was required to participate in misconduct hearings alongside 2 faculty members to investigate academic misconduct cases and determine appropriate disciplinary actions using unbiased judgment. The panel would ask questions of the student and professor, evaluate the evidence provided, and then deliberate privately to determine a penalty. Penalties ranged from a disciplinary notation all the way to a two-year suspension. These were not easy decisions to make and required an unbiased judgment and no doubt in any of the evidence. After decisions were made I edited and contributed to the official decision letters on behalf of the council, providing clear explanations and outlining the next steps according to the Academic Integrity Policy.

I was a senior mentor paired with first-year students to support them throughout the transition into university life. I held bi-weekly check-ins, provided them with a list of university resources, answered any questions they had, shared my personal experience, and maintained an open dialogue throughout the year.

TMU’s Senate holds academic authority and is responsible for maintaining, communicating, and implementing institutional policies pertaining to academic matters. I was elected to represent over 5,000 students in The Creative School, as a voting member on the TMU Senate. I sat on the Learning & Teaching Subcommittee which advises Senate through the leans of learning and teaching.While I was on the Senate I worked alongside faculty members on the Senate Learning & Teaching Subcommittee to write policy amendments to Policy 159 (Academic Accommodation of Students with Disabilities) to be more inclusive of learning disabilities and mental illness. On the Senate I was a voting member and had to vote on all agenda items. This required me to do extensive preparation, read over every policy amendment suggestion, and think critically about how the change would impact the students' interests. I also engaged in policy reviews and interacted with senior administrators, including the university president, to address student concerns and advocate for their needs. I attended monthly subcommittee meetings and Senate meetings.

Acorn Arts Project is a community arts hub for sharing skills and ideas, developing relationships, and strengthening communities. They put on various arts programming for all ages with their efforts being focused on the Regent Park neighbourhood in Toronto.This was an internship I completed as part of my degree, but I enjoyed my time here so much that I continued my role in a volunteer capacity from August onwards. My focus was on fundraising efforts and securing funding for the 2023 calendar year. I drafted a proposal for $15,000+ in arts funding resulting in a presentation opportunity for approval from the Acorn Arts Project board members. During the time there the board of directors was working on a new strategic plan and asked me to help out. I contributed to the 2022-2025 strategic plan by conducting a SWOT analysis by surveying arts programming, conducting secondary source research, and attending 2 economic development sessions at the City of Toronto.

HOEM is a post-secondary student residence that is home to 550+ residents. I held two roles simultaneously as a front desk agent and a member of the social squad (content creation). This was a work from HOEM situation (because I lived there as well). As a content creator on the social squad I conceptualized and created short-form digital marketing content that promoted the student residence’s unique offerings on TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube. I worked with the team to establish a content calendar and schedule people in for social media takeovers.While working at the front desk I was responsible for screening all emails and phone calls to determine if the front desk could answer and then respond to the inquiry, or if it required action from senior administration. I provided administrative support to the office by creating student profiles, checking-in and out residents, scheduling tours, troubleshooting key issues, filling out incident reports, and other miscellaneous task. I gave tours to prospective students both in-person and through zoom. I also helped draft monthly newsletters sent to over 500+ residents that outlined upcoming deadlines, events, and important information.

Niagara Health is a regional hospital system with multiple sites serving 450,000+ residents. As a screener, I worked throughout 3 hospitals and 2 urgent care facilities and was stationed in the emergency rooms and outpatient appointment entrances. Healthcare might seem a little out of place on my resume given my focus has been primarily on the creative industries and hospitality. I began working at the hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic because I wanted to help out in any way I could. This role required an immense amount of sensitivity and compassion during a stressful, and often tragic time for patients and their families.In this role I screened all guests, patients, and staff members for COVID-19 symptoms before entering the hospital. I administered safety protocols in the emergency waiting room by ensuring all patrons were wearing a mask and socially distanced, and any potential COVID-19 patients were isolated in a separate waiting area. During times of lockdown, I took patients who required assistance to and from their appointments and delivered drop-offs to patient rooms. There were times I had to call codes when patients required immediate medical assistance or got violent and aggressive toward staff members.
