As a Rotary Wing Qualified Flight Instructor, I instructed highly motivated ab initio student pilots in safe helicopter operations on the Bell 206B Jet Ranger. The syllabus for these students includes Clearhood flying, Instrument Flying, Low level Navigation, and Night flying with instruction in the classroom, simulator and aircraft. In addition to flight instruction, CRM skills were taught in the context of The RCAFs Human Performance in Military Aviation program, along with mentoring young aviators to be successful military officers.

As Deputy NORAD Air Instructor and NORAD Air Chief, I was charged with the training of new students assigned to the NORAD & USNORTHCOM Joint Operations Center to become fully-qualified watch standers. Secondary duties included maintaining my own qualifications as both a Deputy NORAD Air Chief, NORAD Air Chief, and NORAD Air Evaluator. Aided the organization by providing insight and input into student training and NORAD and USNORTHCOM JOC operations.

Previously as a First Officer on the CH-149 Cormorant helicopter, it was common to fly in harsh weather and to austere locations in support of domestic Search and Rescue operations. Locations and requirements vary mission to mission, but include humanitarian assistance for missing persons and response to situations of aeronautical and maritime distress within the Halifax SRR, 365 days a year. Along with a team of highly motivated and well trained professionals, we work to provide primary SAR response to all Canadians.

Serving as a SAR First Officer on the CH-146 Griffon and as a team, flying in difficult conditions to very austere environments in support local flying and domestic search and rescue operations was routine. I also filled numerous secondary duties that include Deputy Flight Commander, leading and supervising highly motivated individuals in their day to day tasks.
