I am a proven administrator, leader, educator, communicator, and facilitator. My approach is to:• Build agreement about what we are trying to accomplish,• Identify the resources we have,• Identify the resources we need,• Develop a plan for success,• Empower people,• Measure progress and performance, • Recognize everyone’s contribution, and • Hold people accountable (especially myself).Administrator: I am the first Director of the Mike Downs Center for Indiana Politics and have established it as a recognized and reliable source for information and services related to helping the people of Indiana understand the wide-ranging impact of politics in their daily lives. Before this position, I served for two years as Chief of Staff for Mayor Graham Richard of Fort Wayne, Indiana. Leader: I have been elected to faculty leadership positions at PFW seven times. I also served on the Fort Wayne Housing Authority Board of Commissioners for fifteen years, many of them as the Vice-Chair. Educator: I have over twenty years of teaching experience both in the classroom and in the general public. I have taught for three departments at PFW, regularly speak with K-12 classes, give invited public presentations, and organize panel discussions. Many of the discussions have aired on Northeast Indiana Public Radio. Communicator: I am a trusted source of information for news organizations. I have been interviewed more than 100 times every year since 2014. Many of the interviews have been with organizations outside of northeast Indiana including invited columns in the New York Daily News, the Washington Post, and the Indy Star.Facilitator: I have facilitated many large-scale community projects discussions and small group discussions to successful outcomes. By routinely applying recognized and proven methods learned through the Kettering Foundation, I work to gather unbiased information and to empower constituents to have meaningful input in decision making.
