In less than six months the company grow from nothing to over £500,000 in sales. The company retains an affiliation to GRI Asia Ltd through ultimate sourcing of the product from Asian manufacture.; Responsibility for the commercial and financial operations of the company. My role is a part time one, with my business partner working full time in the areas of product management, sales and marketing. We negotiated the sale of a 75% interest in the website, including handover of all day to day responsibilities. GRI still supplies product to the website, as part of the sale deal, and also into the United Kingdom, and are now looking at the wider European market, both West and East. The operation of the wholesale activity has also now been handed over to a strategic business partner, although strategic direction, marketing and industry contacts are managed by GRI.

    A joint venture (JV) between one of the worlds largest petrol retailers and, what was at the time, the fourth largest supermarket chain in the UK. Turnover of circa £500M with a healthy profit distributed to the parent organisations annually. The JV or "partnership" operated 61 sites across England, Scotland and Wales.Responsibility for the finance function reporting to the Director of the Joint Venture. Primary responsibilities included ensuring the effective and reliable production of financial information for use in managing the JV, maintaining the flow of financial to and from the parent organisations, attendance at monthly board meetings to present financial performance and to advise on financial issues surrounding the JV such as new site evaluation, tax issues and general financial control. The position sat on the management team of the JV and included the management of a team who prepare reports such as profit and loss statement, balance sheets, weekly performance reports and fuel pricing. I also oversaw the implementation of Peoplesoft software through the JV, inline with implementation through the Safeway/Morrisons business.

My role in terms of day to day functions involved ensuring a high quality of financial reporting though the organization as well as liasing financial issues to the parent company in the U.S. Examples of such issues are debt v. equity funding, gaining approval for capital projects such as new stores and monthly/quarterly/annual reporting. I was also responsible for all statutory, taxation and other regulatory compliance. All company secretarial work was completed by me, including the filing of all returns and other documentation with the regulatory body. Other various responsibilities included control of foreign currency hedging position and negotiating industrial purchasing contracts.
