For the last 7+ years, I have worked to take a previously-neglected Materials Management department and transform it into a financially-responsible and maximally-efficient organization. I started as a warehouse worker and implemented new processes, cut out inefficiencies, and introduced new technological solutions. I took on more responsibilities until my role had completely changed. I started tracking spending and usage data to make informed decisions, compiled evidence and data to remove a vendor in breach of contract and negotiated a contract with a replacement vendor, started my purchasing role and introduced new processes to lower the inventory value and increase cash flow, and researched and resolved around 5 years' worth of outstanding charges and late fees from our largest vendors. My role now is the primary purchasing officer for the department. I track yearly spending and create budgets and forecast future cost increases as well as savings opportunities. I order and track PPE, COVID-testing kits, and hand sanitizers. I train new employees within the department to follow the systems and processes that I created. I assist other departments in purchasing unique or hard-to-get items as well as any capital purchases. I am a member of an executive cost reduction team that looks for potential savings across the organization. I order and monitor equipment such as copiers, company phones, mail machines, oxygen tanks, and patient beds. I interface with our parent hospital and share my data, processes, and insight. Now that the department is running smoothly and the organization is settling into a new post-COVID equilibrium, I look back and see the massive difference between when I started and now. I am eagerly exploring new opportunities and want to use my expertise to conquer new challenges.
