Coworkers would always ask me how I was able to find missing merchandise that had evaded everyone. I’d tell them I hid it somewhere for job security.I was joking, of course, because the true answer to that question is, that I had a thorough understanding of the inventory I was in control of and had created a mental archive over time of merchandise locations or instances something went awry. I enjoyed tracking the flow of products and understood where / why something was moved or stored. Close attention to detail is one of my strong suits, so my goal was to transpose my mental archive into the company’s software solution so everyone could access what I had in my head. An inventory locator system was the result of this, saving employee time spent looking for products and a reduction in wait time for customers.Building relationships is important to me. I’d go out of my way to assist coworkers as I wanted to be someone that could be sought out for advice and I enjoy helping find solutions to problems. Life doesn’t need to have a ledger, but you will need to call on others for help / favors at some point, so it is good to have extended the helping hand first.On the customer end, whether someone spends $5 with your company or $5000, it is important to respect the hard work behind the number as much as the number itself. Keeping this in mind, I made sure all inquiries were quickly and thoroughly responded to so that we’d always deliver customer service that was a cut above the rest.I love food and cooking. It’s fun to try new methods or tools and there is something very fulfilling about sitting around a table with your family and creating several dozen pierogis for whatever holiday is coming up. On the job, I’d sometimes cook breakfast for the team as I liked seeing how it improved people’s moods and started the day with a pleasant surprise.Through my 17 years in retail, both front end and back end, I gained an understanding of all aspects of operations and made sure my cog in that machine was always running smoothly while continuously improving.
