I was asked to join the team at the Carlton Hotel by the general manager who I had worked with before at the Haven Hotel. He was having problems with the level of knowledge inherent in the staff. I was taken on as a duty / front of house / bars manager as I had worked for him in this capacity before. During my time there The East Cliff Court Hotel was purchased by the Menzies Group, who owned the Carlton Hotel, and my duties increased to encompass duty management of both hotels. I joined the Haven Hotel in 1992 as assistant bars manager and worked my way up to duty manager/ bars manager. I had always had an affinity with working with the public and coming to a high quality four star establishment such as the Haven Hotel enabled me to hone the skills I had. The FJB Group was very keen on bettering employees so during my years there I took my NVQ in customer service and bars management. I also went on to become an NVQ trainer for the chain and gained all applicable qualifications.Duties included: Day to day running of a four star hotel Managing the bars and beverage areas of the hotel Training of staff in customer service and beverage knowledge
