I developed an algorithm in Java to score domain names on the likelihood they are human or algorithmically generated. The domains were supplied via an Apache Kafka Server and I implemented a version of the Kafka Streams API to read in domains, score them, then output the domains to a new Kafka topic. The tool itself is deployed as a docker container and designed to run independently. I am currently looking at ways to improve the algorithm using Natural Language Processing techniques.

As a graduate research assistant I mentored ROTC cadets from both the Air Force and the Army in cyber security capstone projects. I also taught a beginner level cyber security course for the cadets while incorporating modern books such as Sandworm (Andy Greenberg) and The Hacker and the State (Ben Buchanan).I also conducted preliminary research into static analysis tools on programmable logic controller firmware. The goal was to asses the quality of the software and determine if there are any known vulnerabilities present in the code.

I helped develop a trainer for a government defense agency. We used C# and the .NET framework to create a UI that is identical to the actual system. This system replaced the old training system to provide a superior training environment for both students and instructors.

My project over the course of the summer was the development of experiment planning web tools to aid users of the Neutron Residual Stress Mapping Facility (NRSF2) instrument plan their experiments. Currently, the user community must rely on email or phone communication with the instrument team for help with experiment planning. The deployment of web tools on the external NRSF2 webpage will provide users with the necessary tools to determine the optimal counting time and instrument configuration needed to complete their experiment.
