Andrew Griffiths is Head of Advocacy at Sightsavers. His work involves leading on Sightsavers' international advocacy priorities and supporting the development of effective advocacy in all Sightsavers Country Offices; and he leads a team of Global Advocacy Advisers. Andrew also co-chairs the Bond SDG Group, working to influence the UK government’s implementation of the SDGs, and sits on the board of the International Council for Education of People with Visual Impairment. He previously co-chaired the Together 2030 initiative from 2016-2019 and the Beyond 2015 campaign from 2014-2016. Head Of AdvocacySightsavers Jun 2014 - PresentUnited KingdomI lead the delivery of Sightsavers’ international advocacy objectives, responsibilities include:Leadership of Sightsavers’ strategy, engagement with coalitions and partners on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).- Leading Sightsavers’ influencing of Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs), which has led to the setting up of 8 coalitions, the inclusion of people with disabilities in 19 VNR processes, and significant changes in the VNR reports – this work is in a case study profiled by UN DESA- Setting up and co-chairing Together 2030 – an initiative providing information and knowledge to support to over 800 civil society organisations; co-chairing Beyond 2015 from 2014-16- Co-chairing the Bond SDG group – the UK international NGO coalition on SDG implementation, whose leadership role and impact has been acknowledged in the UK government Voluntary National Review and the International Development Select Committee, to whom I gave oral evidence in 2019Leading the strategic integration of advocacy within Sightsavers’ country offices programmes, in order to ensure the delivery of effective national advocacy plans, including leading a significant increase in the ability to influence policy change, to plan advocacy work, fund influencing work, and to lead civil society engagement and to be viewed as a key stakeholder by governments; for example in 2019, we have successfully advocated for new disability legislation in Uganda and Nigeria, and have started to implement an innovative project in India focusing on local SDG accountabilityBoard member of the International Council on the Education of People with Visual Impairment (ICEVI), with a particular focus on governance reformManaging a team that has grown from 3 people in 2014 to 9 in 2019, and a team budget which has nearly doubled over this period -
