I lead the delivery of Sightsavers’ international advocacy objectives, responsibilities include:Leadership of Sightsavers’ strategy, engagement with coalitions and partners on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).- Leading Sightsavers’ influencing of Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs), which has led to the setting up of 8 coalitions, the inclusion of people with disabilities in 19 VNR processes, and significant changes in the VNR reports – this work is in a case study profiled by UN DESA- Setting up and co-chairing Together 2030 – an initiative providing information and knowledge to support to over 800 civil society organisations; co-chairing Beyond 2015 from 2014-16- Co-chairing the Bond SDG group – the UK international NGO coalition on SDG implementation, whose leadership role and impact has been acknowledged in the UK government Voluntary National Review and the International Development Select Committee, to whom I gave oral evidence in 2019Leading the strategic integration of advocacy within Sightsavers’ country offices programmes, in order to ensure the delivery of effective national advocacy plans, including leading a significant increase in the ability to influence policy change, to plan advocacy work, fund influencing work, and to lead civil society engagement and to be viewed as a key stakeholder by governments; for example in 2019, we have successfully advocated for new disability legislation in Uganda and Nigeria, and have started to implement an innovative project in India focusing on local SDG accountabilityBoard member of the International Council on the Education of People with Visual Impairment (ICEVI), with a particular focus on governance reformManaging a team that has grown from 3 people in 2014 to 9 in 2019, and a team budget which has nearly doubled over this period

- Leading and developing Sightsavers post-2015 advocacy, including engaging with the Beyond 2015 International Executive Committee, the Beyond 2015 UK Steering Committee, engaging with IDA and IDDC on disability in post-2015, engaging with the World Bank and WHO on measuring Universal Health Coverage, and supporting Sightsavers’ and coalitions’ post-2015 policy analysis- Managing Sightsavers’ policy output and team of policy advisers, ensuring high quality outputs and outcome focused policy influencing strategies- Supporting effective outcome-focused policy development, including leading on a policy development process, monitoring and evaluating policy and advocacy- Contributing to policy development, including case study evidence gathering for the UK Parliament Inquiry into disability, into health systems strengthening- Supporting advocacy strategy and programme development, and UK campaigning

- Developing and communicating health, nutrition and food security policy messaging, including with political, media and academic audiences – providing policy support to ensure fragile states were well represented at UK Government and CIFF “Nutrition for Growth” event- Undertaking, commissioning and managing research projects on issues relating to child health, nutrition and food security – including large research project on governance for nutrition in fragile states, which led to the DRC Government becoming a member of the Scaling Up Nutrition movement: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25544383 and http://reliefweb.int/report/world/fragile-not-helpless-scaling-nutrition-fragile-and-conflict-affected-states- Providing technical support and capacity building for World Vision offices on their advocacy activities, including supporting the development of successful advocacy campaigns in DRC and Pakistan- Contributing to research, analysis and evaluations and learning related to programme effectiveness, innovation and impact- Engaging with peer agencies about health policy development – including leading coalition advocacy efforts on Universal Health Coverage and health systems strengthening, and peer reviewing papers, such as the Tearfund and DFID policy paper on WASH in fragile states- Leading the World Vision Partnership advocacy work on Reform of the WHO- Developing relationships and engaging with universities, trust funds and government agencies

- Writing and advising World Vision policy, including for Government and Parliamentary consultations – including major government policy reviews- Advising the Chief Executive and Directors on World Vision’s relationship with the UK Government- Developing relationships with key influencers in Parliament, Whitehall and international institutions; including International Development Ministers, Shadow Ministers, UN Special Envoys and others- Developing and implementing influencing strategies- Writing briefings and talking points for speakers at political events, including parliamentary events

Responsibilities include: communicating NSPCC policies and lobbying at a local, national and European level; drafting and advising on political and advocacy strategies; writing briefing papers; monitoring the political environment; and communicating policy development with internal and external audiences.
