These studies have been a mixture of non-commercial and commercial studies. As a Clinical Trials Assistant I have a wide range of duties and responsibilities that can be both clerical and clinical. As part of my job I liaise with personnel across all levels both within the hospital and with outside stake holders. Other tasks can include, but are not limited to, recording clinical data into clinical research files both paper and electronic, inputting data into electronic research databases such as EDGE or screening clinics for suitable patients to approach to recruit. I also ensure that the studies I work on adhere to their protocols, maintaining tight version control of study documents. Among other clinical tasks I have been trained to undertake anthropometric measurements, bio-impedance and am working towards taking blood samples. I have experience in working on studies through set up to archiving. I have to assist with setting up feasibility meeting to utilising the Integrated Research Application System (IRAS) to complete and submit Site Specific Information (SSI) forms. During the active recruitment phase I screen patients, assisting with approach and recruitment as well as recording and uploading patient date. In follow up I track patients, arranging research appointments and recording data. When data queries arise, I will check uploaded data, gathering additional information and ensure everything is in order. When studies require archiving I assist in closing down the study, ensuring all data and paperwork is stored correctly for long term storage. I have also assisted colleagues by reviewing and editing documentation such as standard operating procedures, communications etc Show less

On a daily basis I prepared hard copy and electronic Patient notes for Trauma and Orthopaedic (T&O) and General Surgery Outpatient clinics held at the Royal South Hants Hospital (RSH) as well as some that were held at the Southampton General Hospital. On occasion I was also required to assist the Surgical Prep. team preparing hard copy and electronic notes. When working with Surgical team I was required to cover areas such as Ear, Nose and Throat, General Surgery including Urology and Colorectal as well as Dermatology and Respiratory Medicine. When preparing hard copy and electronic patient notes you are required to track and request any hard copies. Then collate any information required such as referrals, images from MRI's or CT's performed at other Hospitals etc. that may not be on our systems or in the notes. Additional tasks include booking patient transport and any Interpretors that may be needed. This requires the use of specialise software which includes among others Camis, eCamis, Sectra and Criss. My other main responsibility was working the reception desk for the T&O Outpatient clinics at the RSH. Working on the reception desk includes tasks such as answering phones and queries from patients and medical staff, booking patients into clinic, arranging follow up appointments and ensuring patients on organised transport are picked up on time. Whilst undertaking this role I was required to interact with both Patients as well as Medical staff of all levels. Once the clinic is is over it is then my responsibility to ensure all patients have been outcomed, print any letters that are required, scan any paperwork and ensure hard copy notes are returned to the Health Records Centre.
