Working in conjunction with the Transport Business Manager, we are tasked with building successful businesses using OptaSense in the rail and road domains. I have been integral in securing the contracts to provide the platform to build the business lines. My responsibilities within the small team stretch to all parts of the sales cycle in addition to helping with forward planning. I am the technical authority on releasing bids for rail, road and mining rail. I am responsible for product development and work closely with our research team and software implementation team. I manage a small, growing team of engineers tasked with project delivery.

My new role, accompanied by promotion, has focused on driving acoustic sensing technology into global road and rail markets with increasing success. I have added to my existing technical and operational expertise by widening my portfolio to include all aspects of project management including commercial and change management. I have a leading role in the delivery of transport projects from concept to commissioning into on-going support. I thoroughly enjoy interacting with the customer to provide what are, in effect, bespoke solutions. Being ambitious, I enjoy new challenges.

Leading trials, demonstrations and installations of the OptaSense Distributed Acoustic Sensing system globally. I have a wealth of experience in leading multi-disciplinary teams for OptaSense installations and trials in a variety of different applications including monitoring pipelines, perimeters, railways and roads. My travels have taken me to over ten countries spanning five continents.

As an acoustic signature analyst I was engaged in the measurement, interpretation, analysis and reporting of underwater radiated noise. I led teams of engineers and analysts, both ashore and on-board ships and submarines and was competent to lead overseas deployments of the transportable range.My achievements during this time were leading acoustic trials for all four UK V-class submarines, receiving an individual merit promotion to senior scientist, being awarded the sections annual travel award for my successful training plan for new recruits and being added to the succession plan as a successor to my manager.

I was seconded to the Underwater Systems Division of QinetiQ to help gain a successful commissioning of their Transportable Acoustic Range (TAR). I successfully helped in gaining the required signatories to approve the project and received a letter of commendation for my efforts from the Technical Lead.An excerpt of his letter reads:"Andy's involvement during the setting to work and ranging of the TAR system was invaluable. Following data acquisition Andy was able to process the data and validate the functionality of the data acquisition system, tracking data and software interfaces. In doing this some discrepancies within the commissioning procedures were identified by Andy which were subsequently amended prior to the acceptance testing. This was vital to the seamless execution of the acceptance tests that were completed successfully. I would strongly recommend Andy Hall for any similar roles in the future. Andy is clearly an intelligent scientist, adapting quickly to new scenarios, thinking on his feet and working well under pressure.The quality of his training course added significantly to the positive feed received during the washup meeting, whihc ultimately led to the acceptance of the system. This is a true reflection of the professionalism and expert knowledge that Andy displayed throughout his time in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia."
