Assigned to oversee the migration of the recently acquired Radiology Benefits Management (RBM) solution, I focused the team on porting existing Windows/Dotnet-based applications into a containerized, AWS-based system. Notable achievements: * Developed a Docker-based Dotnet build and runtime framework. * Migrated from manual application and schema deployment to an automated Codebuild-based deployment.* Migrated SQL Server and Reporting Services into AWS RDS. * Migrated from TFS to Github and instituted a standardized PR process. * Migrated Windows-based jobs into AWS lambdas.

Tasked to form a “tiger team” to build a predictive, COVID surveillance system.Notable achievements: * Implemented a real-time patient indexing engine - incorporating concurrent data ingestion and processing, Message Oriented Middleware, a shardable and distributive data model, and an AST-based transpiler. * Integrated a published predictive model from patient comorbidities, to calculate a “likelihood of hospitalization score". * Integrated NLP processing of unstructured clinical text to produce SNOMED-based codings. * Implemented administrative functionality for reprocessing data and inclusion of additional clinical rulesets.Assigned to lead the effort to refactor and re-architect Stanson’s primary application by rewriting the existing grails-based monolith into a set of stateless services. I assembled a multi-stakeholder team to implement and deploy a new OAuth 2.0-based system.Notable achievements: * Developed Kotlin-based libraries to establish a standardized framework for new Spring Boot/Kotlin services * Developed a process to evaluate and select an OAuth 2.0 vendor. * Migrated to a Dockerized runtime environment using AWS ECS. * Migrated and standardized the build environment using AWS Codebuild. * Separated frontend into a SPA with its own code repository and build/deploy pipeline. * Converted headless services from X.509 authentication to OAuth 2.0.

Led the effort to build out a scalable, predictable deployment organization. Notable achievements: * Developed a foundation to reduce response time for security and compliance vetting. * Developed a Data Dictionary and Data Sufficiency methodology to ensure coverage and schema adherence of data integration. * Developed a standardized deployment project plan. * Developed workshops for improving coordination and evaluation methodologies. * Hired and mentored project managers and client engineers.

Built a team and led the development of Cohort Builder – an AI-based platform to identify patients for clinical trials. As the CTO, I assembled a team of experts to design a secure system capable of ingesting huge patient data sets, analyzing both structured and unstructured data, and delivering a scalable application framework. The development involved several key breakthroughs including real-time annotation framework, an extensible ruleset derived from UMLS and medical ontologies, efficient data pipelines, and performant feasibility calculations.

Reporting directly to the CTO, I was responsible for overseeing the development of Instantly's new product initiatives:* Survey Tool – a survey authoring tool with integrated Panel technology* goZing – a GPT (Get Paid To) site aimed at increasing Instantly's Panel engagement* Concept Test - a Concept Test authoring tool which provides comparative reporting* Product Watch - a Real-Time alerting and analytical tool for new CPG products* iPoll mobile – an app which provides mobile optimized Panel technology. Principal Software Architect for CircleUp, incorporating multi-channel communications (email, im, sms, voice, facebook), providing effective broadcasting of questions, surveys, messages and announcements and receiving and managing feedback. As a principal Software Architect, was responsible for architecting and overseeing the implementation of the major system components including the UI, Database, and Service layers, as well as, OEM integration.Specifically:* Designed and developed an XQuery infrastructure that stores, retrieves, caches and processes XQueries over a SQLdatabase.* Developed a Dojo based UI with numerous custom widgets.* Designed and developed a UI architecture incorporating Spring, Struts, Tiles, Velocity, DVSL and URL rewriting.* Integrated the CircleUp product into third party infrastructure including AOL, Eteamz, Outlook and Netvibes.* Developed a recurring subscription infrastructure involving Apache Camel, ActiveMQ, Drupal, Paypal and Ubercart.

Principal engineer for Lawyer Links, an online resource of formatted and cross-referenced statutes, rules, and official legal interpretations for the corporate legal profession. As the principal engineer, was responsible for overseeing the continuing development of the Lawyer Links publishing processes, user management, and backend infrastructure.Developed Magna Entertainment’s “Simplified Wagering Machine”, a nationwide network of animated video kiosks for horse wagering.

Consulted as an interim Project Lead for Capital Group’s Canadian division: Capital International Asset Management (CIAM). Working with over twenty stakeholders including business owners, executive management, and technical personnel, was responsible for two successful releases of the CIAM website.Acting Project Director for the Privatization Share Purchase Loan Scheme (PSPLS). The PSPLS, provided low interest loans to purchase shares in recently privatized corporations.

As Director of Engineering reporting to the CTO, managed and led the development and QA of Clearview's offering:  an internet based, centrally managed, streaming video system. Highlights included: * With the CTO, developed product strategy, architecture and design. * Managed, mentored, and motivated a team of 10 developers and testers. Accountable for all aspects of development, including product quality, timeline, and budget. * Focused the development organization on utilizing UML based development and testing methodologies coupled with tighter project management controls. * Prepared technical strategy for investment rounds, developed product demonstrations, and created sales presentations.

Co-founded 3G Interactive, an incubator focused on developing two internet-based companies: Roamfreely, a provider of travel and mobile communications management technologies; and MBANET.net, an online community for MBA students. Highlights included: * Architected and designed the Roamfreely and MBANET.net infrastructure. * Repositioned Roamfreely from a bundled telecom service offering to a corporate travel and mobile communication management platform. * Developed hiring plans and engineering budgets, hired developers and outsourcing firms, and prepared for venture capital presentations and technical due diligence reviews. Analyzed and established relationships with best-of-breed travel, telecom, and information providers.

Provided leadership and management for the development of Securant Technologies’ product Cleartrust, a 100% Java/CORBA based enterprise-class web security system. Highlights included: * Developed an external API in Java and C; restructured the Web Server plug-in (written in C) for portability across operating systems (NT and Solaris) and Web Servers (Netscape, Apache, IIS); restructured the Java Client’s event handling subsystem and enhanced its User Interface; stabilized the CORBA based distributed processing architecture; and enhanced the data model for both Oracle and Sybase.Prioritized the development team’s efforts on: * Scalability: Redesign of the server architecture to handle over 50 million users and achieve highest possible runtime performance. * Quality Assurance: Development of a formalized QA and utilization of a defect-tracking system. * Processes: UML structured design processes, project planning, version control, build processes, and product installation packaging. * Security Improvements: Incorporation of Triple DES, and Blowfish encryption for all inter-component communications.Documentation: Outsourcing of the documentation effort.
