Systems Architect
- Sole system architect for all of Avera Health – hundreds of physical sites including large hospitals,clinics, specialty and administrative locations.- Responsible for majority of all design and architecture for all server, storage, virtualization,backup/DR, and primary enterprise applications throughout the organization. Environment consisted of two primary datacenters and a handful of smaller datacenters, petabytes of storage, several hundred vSphere hosts, and thousands of virtual machines.- Designed, implemented, and maintained one of the largest Cisco UCS and EMC environments in the region.- Technical head of the infrastructure and other sysadmin groups.- Designed and implemented policies, procedures and standards used by all of IT to create a highlyconsistent and stable environment.- Worked directly with the rest of the infrastructure team to deploy, monitor, and maintain allinfrastructure hardware. Also served as a sort of internal project manager and escalation point forprojects and issues that affected my group.- Handled vendor relationships for all hardware and software quoting, developing multiple systems to assist with this process and add consistency to our purchasing and planning.- Worked directly with leadership to build and manage budgets for entire department.- Designed and built out the systems infrastructure for two new large datacenters, as well as a major retrofit to several smaller datacenters.- Directly responsible for ensuring hardware and software performance and availability for our primary application (Meditech EMR) that spanned hundreds of virtual and physical servers.
