I was always interested in history. Whether it be castles or museums, objects from the past have always fascinated me. How other people experienced the world around them has always been intriguing to me. I suppose that is why I was so naturally inclined to start my history degree, which I started at Leeds Beckett in 2021. This course has been incredible for my development. From increasing my confidence when speaking in front of crowds, to developing my research skills, as well as training my analytic eye.Throughout my degree I have also been informed upon future career opportunities. Growing up I always thought that I wanted to teach. Both of my parents worked within the NHS, and that has informed upon me the belief that work should be about helping others, and not just yourself. Through this I have looked at possible careers in the Civil Service, but also charity work. Undoubtedly volunteering at Candlelighters, the Yorkshire Children's Cancer Charity, has helped foster this aspiration. The team are incredible, and their work and dedication has inspired me into doing something similar. They have trained me to use internal software systems, as well as furthering my attention to detail, and teaching me how to input finances and data. I thoroughly enjoy my time there once a week.I first started working when I was fourteen years old, washing plates at the local pub. Despite the measly wage, I have always been independent minded, and felt the virtue in purchasing things using the money I'd earned. This continued through my college years, and upon moving away to study at university, I picked up a job first as a courier for Deliveroo, and then in my current position as a Sales Assistant for the JD company. I first worked on the shop floor, which trained my inter-personal skills as well as cash handling and working within a small team.
