I currently have a portfolio of jobs, primarily as a tutor, a public speaker, a writer and as a celebrant of Humanist or non-religious weddings/partnerships, funerals and namings. I have been trained and accredited by the British Humanist Association and this is my main focus for work. Building on my wide-ranging interests, my background in education and my desire to encourage thinking, research and debate, I am also develo a series of presentations and resources to help individuals, groups and organisations. These activities address some of the challenging and fundamental issues from history, politics and current affairs.so as to enhance knowledge, develop analysis, and build motivation. A former colleague recently said, "Andrew is a philosopher, a creative thinker and a great public speaker." I believe that I have the knowledge, experience and ability to present ideas and arguments in a challenging and thought provoking way.I am based in North Yorkshire although much of my career has been spent in the Midlands of England. I have lived overseas, though, having spent a year as a Senior Teacher on the remote island of St. Helena in the South Atlantic, and for three years I was at Cologne International School in Germany, where I had a variety of roles including Deputy Principal, Head of Social Sciences and Head of Lower School. From 2001 until 2016, I was a History teacher and Head of Department, and I have also taught Politics, Business Studies, Enterprise, Geography and RE. Before becoming a teacher, I was a Catholic priest in the Archdiocese of Birmingham, a role I left in 1999. My work gave me a wide range of pastoral experiences, including schools, prisons, hospitals and youth ministry, counselling and public speaking, as well as the conducting of funerals, baptisms and marriages. I was ordained in 1990 after six years of training at the English College in Valladolid, Spain.
