Senior Service HydrologistNational Weather Service Apr 2023 - PresentSioux Falls, South Dakota, United States1. Provide leadership at the WFO level for the NWS effort to supply hydrologic services to the public in a complex designated support area which involves high levels of multiple liaison responsibility and a high degree of technical management responsibility.2. Provide technical and administrative support for the WFO hydrologic service program(s). Program support duties include:- Determine service requirements of the designated support area and coordinate these requirements with appropriate officials and RFCS. Evaluate sites and areas subject to floods and flash floods. Represent the WFO hydrologic program(s) at public and interagency meetings.- Develop and modify WFO hydrologic procedures, models, techniques, manuals, and dissemination plans to ensure optimal use of technologies and real-time data.- In coordination with the Science and Operations Officer (SOO), coordinate and provide appropriate levels of hydrologic training for WFO staff(s) in the designated support area.- Maintain hydrometeorological databases and information files, including those for Reports on River Gage Stations (E-19), station rating tables, gage network information, and hydrologic model parameters. - In cooperation with other NWS offices and local and state officials, review the requirements for establishment of additional forecast services in the designated support area. Perform the necessary hydrologic studies, field work, and data management activities necessary to establish locations for new hydrologic services. - Participate in flood damage assessments and prepare flood reports and monthly reports of river and flood conditions as defined in the Weather Service Operations Manual.- Serve as a hydrologic representative at seminars and meetings sponsored by Federal, state, and local agencies, as well as professional societies.- In coordination with Warning Coordination Meteorologist(s) (WCM), lead the NWS effort to encourage flood preparedness activities in local communities. -
Meteorologist (Forecaster)National Weather Service Aug 2017 - Mar 2023Greater Sioux Falls Area-Interrogate meteorological data from a variety of sources in order to analyze and assess the current and future weather situation at both the synoptic and meso-scale level. This includes conducting a weather watch utilizing Doppler radar data and satellite imagery, as well as other short range meteorological and hydrologic guidance. -Produce and transmit hydrometeorological forecasts including public, aviation, fire weather and flood products. This includes, but is not limited to, proficient use in AWIPS navigation, GFE 'grid' editing, TAF writing, fire weather spot request production, as well as the creation and dissemination of standard NWS products. -Participate in the watch/warning/advisory program by issuing appropriate severe/winter weather and flood related products.-Serve as the office focal point for the Pathfinder Project. This project is a collaborative effort between various state department of transportation's, the National Weather Service, and private weather providers, in order to develop a collaborative message with the goal of keeping the traveling public safe. -Active member of a local office working group tasked with advancing Impact-Based Decision Support Services. -Active member of the local office Outreach advisory group. This has included giving various talks and presentation at various venues including schools, fairs, and career seminars. -Provide weather guidance to the general public and core partners. This includes weather briefings to core partners via telephone and online webinars, media interviews, and responding to phone calls and emails from the general public. This also included active participation in the office social media and informational graphics program. -Coordinate with other local, regional, or national offices about forecasts, highlights, and other related products. -Operate NOAA Weather Radio and other dissemination systems.
