MIDDEN (Manufacturing Industry Decarbonisation Data Exchange Network) is a joint project led by PBL and ECN with the aim to create a data exchange platform for Dutch Industry. My focus within the project is on the steel industry, in which I collected data and explored decarbonisation strategies. My thesis project for MSc Sustainable Energy Technology is based upon this research.

Brussels Area, Belgium

During this internship my main project focused on a research paper investigating the role of Power-to-Gas in bridging the gap between electricity and gas as a strategy to achieve decarbonisation. Alongside this I worked on several smaller projects based on a range of sustainable energies and applying both my technical knowledge and the associated policy and regulations of such projects.

This role in a start-up business which aimed to promote independent restaurants gave me the opportunity to become the lead employee in sales, marketing and business development. I led the development of the business to expand into a new city.

I assisted the team in helping them achieve their two overarching environmental objectives: delivering sustainable buildings and promoting sustainable behaviour to students and staff. I undertook a standalone project, to reduce the amount of waste produced by the company alongside saving costs. Taking the project from research, through to implementation and review.

I performed work in a range of departments throughout the company including design, project management and accounts. I learned the basics of each of each stage from the initial tendering stages of a project, the design process and finally the erection of steel on site.
