Dowell Windows is a privately-owned Australian company employing over 700 staff across 21 locations with an annual turnover of approximately $200,000,000. I was promoted into this senior executive position, reporting to the CEO, to take overall responsibility and accountability of the company’s information technology function.

I was responsible for the management of the ICT Infrastructure comprising servers, storage arrays, network, industrial control networks, cloud, data centre operations and facilities, and desktop computers. G.James has multiple sites, 2000+ employees and multi-million-dollar IT Infrastructure.I thoroughly enjoyed managing a talented team of 15 technical staff including the IT Service Desk, conducting regular performance discussions to ensure high output and productivity across the team.Major responsibilities:► Contribute to the development of the company IT Enterprise Architecture and strategy.► Design and architect IT Infrastructure solutions in line with the Enterprise Architecture strategy.► Analyse business requirements and develop business cases and proposals for improvements and solutions using innovative, modern and best practice technologies. ► Purchase, license, manage key strategic relationships with hardware & software vendors and contracts worth approximately $3M per year.► Report regularly to senior management about IT infrastructure status including up-time, capacity, faults/outages and organisational usage/uptake of key technology.Key Achievements:★ Improved staff performance and culture change.★ Redesigned the corporate data backup strategy saving $250K over 3 years: restructured to leverage cloud technology, reduced the number of backup software applications which reduced ongoing maintenance costs.★ Introduced Desktop as a Service and outsourced the provisioning of the hardware and SOE - resulting in a faster turnaround and greatly-improved end user experience.★ Restructured network security - introduced a specific combination of muliple Cisco and Microsoft products, and Sophos Endpoint Protection which provided a significant boost in identification and prevention of known and potential security threats. The restructure reduced the soluton complexity and reduced the overall cost by $90K over 3 yrs.

I joined G. James after crossing paths with a colleague I had consulted with earlier in my career. Major responsibilities:► Designed, planned, installed, upgraded, supported, and troubleshooted ICT infrastructure including server hardware, Windows and Linux operating systems, storage infrastructure (NetApp FAS, Cisco Nexus/MDS), network devices (F5 load balancers, Cisco ASA firewalls, Cisco Web & Email Security Appliances) and data protection technologies (Veeam, HP enterprise tape libraries).► Managed complex Microsoft Windows, Exchange, SQL, Citrix XenApp, NetApp (FAS, FlexPod), Cisco (UCS, FlexPod), and VMware across multiple datacentre locations (Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne).► Manage third-party vendor managed services and contracts attending regular service review and feedback discussions.► Automated user management process, login scripts (KIX), standard operating environment (WDS, PowerShell, VBScript).► Provide advice, direction and support to management about hardware and software procurement and managed service options.► Member of the ICT Management Committee providing technology direction to senior stakeholders.► Provided coaching, mentoring and leadership to co-workers and helped them to cross-skill in technologies.Key Achievements:★ Increased the stability of the Citrix and Windows environment - when first employed, reviewed the current Infrastructure state and found obsolete hardware and software running business-critical systems. Developed a business case to upgrade, which was given the green light.★ Delivered savings of $2M over 5 years by taking the initiative to look for competitive proposals for storage solutions.★ Increased the stability of the server infrastructure - after implementing the new storage technology, various servers experienced intermittent disconnections of disks. I decided to separate the single fabric (VSAN) into two. Carefully planned to achieve no business disruption and eliminated the issue.

I provided professional high-level consulting, technical support and managed services to small to large sized businesses.Major responsibilities:► Consulted with customers to understand business requirements, designed, developed, and presented proposed technical solutions. ► Build IT Infrastructure including VMware, HP storage arrays, Cisco LAN and WAN, SonicWall and public facing web services.► Performed systems administration, regular preventative maintenance, monitoring, and reporting of managed services clients.► Participated in an on-call roster servicing clients requiring out-of-business-hours support for business-critical systems.► Provided support, guidance, leadership, advice and mentoring to technical team members. Key Achievements:★ Integrated NetOptions into Datacom network – Brisbane-based technology company, NetOptions, was acquired by Datacom Systems in 2005. I was instrumental in the process of integrating the NetOptions network into Datacom’s. This involved assisting the Sydney Datacom team with installation and configuration of MPLS network connectivity, setting up new site domain controllers and print servers, and setting up user accounts in their Active Directory domain. ★ Built QLD Building Services Authority (BSA) greenfield network – a most interesting and challenging project. I designed, installed and configured a greenfield network based on HP ProCurve network equipment. It was a large complex network supporting over 200 staff. ★ Stabilised Friendly Society Private Hospital server environment – I travelled to Bundaberg to troubleshoot and resolve Active Directory authentication issues and redesigned the Microsoft Windows Server environment from a single server to split roles. This provided more flexibility, reduced risk to the business and improved stability for hospital staff.

I started iGlobe when I identified a need to support the Queensland Schools Standard Operating Environment (SOE). As I was a key contributor to the design, and automated build of the SOE, I saw an opportunity to help deploy the it to schools across South East Queensland (SEQ). Word quickly spread and I was sought after by principals to fast track and deploy the SOE within their schools. I sold the business after successfully supporting more than 20 regular public and private sector clients for 12 months. Major responsibilities:► Worked with school principals, heads of department, and school-based technical staff to design, build, and deploy the Education Queensland Standard Operating System (SOE) across the school computing and network environment.► Worked with small business customers to understand their business requirements, designed, developed, and presented proposed technical solutions. ► Provided professional onsite, and remote technical support services to small-medium sized businesses.► Designed and created business extranets and intranets based on Microsoft SharePoint and WordPress.► Designed and installed greenfield networks and server infrastructure using HP ProLiant and Procurve equipment.► Provided regular routine maintenance to business servers including applying security hotfixes and analysing backup tasks.Key Achievement:★ I obtained and sustained high value, high quality and profitable business through word-of-mouth recommendations from satisfied clients.

I concurrently worked across multiple locations for Education Queensland (EQ) including: Moreton Shire District (1 year), Central Office (1 year), Centenary State High School and Jamboree Heights State School (4 years).Major responsibilities:► Managed and administered school Local Area Networks (LAN), both onsite and remotely to over 30 districts within Queensland.► Developed, deployed and supported the first Queensland State Government departmental automated Windows Standard Operating Environment (SOE) based on Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and Microsoft Windows XP Professional workstation.► Deployed, supported and maintained EQ’s SOE across all districts.► Provided Level 3 technical support to senior technical engineers across all EQ districts – 1200+ sites.► Installed new server and network hardware including HP Compaq, 3Com network infrastructure (switches, wireless, routers).► Provided technical advice and support to staff and students to resolve problems associated with computing facilities.Key Achievements:★ Introduced EQ’s first SOE – I was recommended to EQ’s senior management to work on the first-of- its-kind project. Assisted schools by providing an easy-to-deploy, standardised, simple-to-manage and supported platform. The project was a success and the SOE was deployed to1500 EQ schools.★ Managed the IT Infrastructure for a brand new school – I supported Centenary State High School from when it opened in January 1999. I set up new computing facilities and assisted with the growth of the school, initially starting with a limited number of grades and eventually reaching the full complement of around 800 students in years 8-12. I setup and configured automated build processes for computer labs using batch, VBScript and Nortons Ghost imaging product. I provided upgrades to servers and provide IT advice and direction to both staff and students.
