Andrew started training as a town planner in 1990 and has worked in both local authorities and in the private sector. He spent four years working in Local Government Development Control sections before joining Ward Hadaway.Andrew was promoted to Associate (Chartered Town Planner) in 2003 and in 2020 to Director (Chartered Town Planner).Andrew has been a member of the Royal Town Planning Institute since 1996 and acts for a range of landowner, development and public sector clients. He has particular expertise in cases where there are difficult policy, legal and technical issues.Private sector clients include developers, estates, individuals and pressure groups. Andrew has additionally had a range of instructions from public sector organisations.Andrew has had two periods of secondment whilst with Ward Hadaway. The first was to a local planning authority to run a Development Control Service. The second was with a national house builder.Whilst in local government Andrew undertook a range of tasks including determining planning applications, preparing development briefs for sites, giving informal advice and contributing to the preparation of development plans from the development control perspective.At Ward Hadaway he has been involved in projects including urban extensions, the redevelopment of large sites with varying forms of development, promoting land and influencing policy in the Development Plan preparation process, the preparation of Environmental Statements and many planning applications including in relation to housing matters, enabling development, private gypsy sites and major retail proposals. He has also undertaken enforcement work on behalf of both private and public sector clients.Andrew has appeared as an expert witness on many occasions. This includes appearances at planning and enforcement hearings and inquires, in development plan inquiries / examinations in public and in the magistrates court.
