Dr Andrew Mackey is an ecologist and geospatial scientist with skills in statistics, modelling, and programming and is a passionate advocate for wildlife and habitat protection and preservation. Andrew has over 15 years of postgraduate research, advisory, and consulting experience and is an award-winning research scientist and founder of BioGeo, an ecological and geospatial social enterprise for biodiversity conservation. A large part of Andrew’s research background has focused on marine and freshwater ecosystems, including modelling the role of physical and biogeochemical features on ecological processes and using stable isotopes to understand energy flow and trophodynamics (see publications and PhD thesis).Before this, Andrew worked for the British Antarctic Survey, studying the ecology of zooplankton and the drivers of their distribution across the Southern Ocean, including developing predictive models based on ocean warming (see publications).Currently, Andrew leads Ecological Modelling and Geospatial Services at Engeny, where he provides advanced planning, design, development and management of desktop, web and mobile GIS platforms and technical oversight of statistical analyses and modelling, including species distribution modelling (e.g., Maxent, Bioclim, etc.), wildlife corridors (e.g., circuit theory, Linkage Mapper, etc.), network analyses, ArcGIS Model Builder, etc.
