I know the frantic feeling of powerlessness that comes when you cannot help someone in an emergency simply because you don’t speak the same language. After my brother was tragically injured in a car accident while traveling in Mexico, we had no way of finding out where he was, if he was even alive, or how to get him the emergency medical help he needed. My brother survived, yet I learned that this incident was not unique. Doctors and nurses cannot provide patients with critical care every day, simply because of the language barrier. For over 20 years, we have empowered underserved communities with Martti, the pioneer in video remote interpreting. We continue to innovate masterful, elegant solutions in language access and healthcare.The best part of my day is talking with some of our interpreters after they have finished an encounter with a client, to see the elation and pleasure on their faces as they empower patients to move from a place of fear and uncertainty, toward a confident partnership with their care team.
