About Andrew Phipps
When I was 9 a teacher told me I'd grow up to be the Prime Minister. Thankfully I decided to avoid politics and explore the world of business. I've never regretted that decision and have had some amazing experiences over the course of my career to date.I've discovered a couple of things that define who I am:- I love working with people and people are kind enough to say they love working with me. Leading, mentoring, guiding, nurturing, and just being present for people.- It's important to connect with people across all parts of a business not just the team I'm directly responsible for. Connecting others, and learning from different elements of a business moves the needle.- When I am working on something time becomes a concept as opposed to a reality. The traditional 9 to 5 is meaningless in our society, working from wherever and whenever suits drives productivity.- I am obsessed with learning and growth. If each day were 48 instead of 24 hours I'd use the extra time to read, listen, absorb and just learn. Sustainability, AI, human development, business, ethics, philosophy, bring it on!-The statement 'if you can find something you love and get paid for it you'll be happy' is true, I might deny saying this but I'd do what I'm passionate about for free!My strengths are to very quickly diagnose, refine and communicate challenges and opportunities in a way designed to elicit support and buy-in. I have to be in a place where I can make a positive difference. One of the biggest issues we face in business is the reluctance to make decisions. Sometimes we don't have every single piece of evidence or data that we'd like, but that's okay, we can still make a decision. Moving forward purpose is far better than progressing without direction, standing still or worse moving backwards.The duality of AI and Sustainability is going to change the world. It staggers me how little time some spend looking to the future, having the foresight to make the changes that are needed for tomorrow, today. Making a decision is not something to fear, life and business moves on and I want to be part of the change.I love working and it's a very important part of the work-life balance that is discussed so frequently on LinkedIn and elsewhere. The balance to me isn't having a distinct proportion of time allocated to each, rather it's how they blend together. It's less about balance and to me it's more about the relationship across all aspects of life.
