The purpose of this position is to provide forest ecology expertise to the DCNR's Bureau of Forestry and the state-wide Pennsylvania Natural Heritage Program (PNHP) in the development, management and performance of various projects including ecological monitoring and assessment, site restoration planning, management plans for ecologically-sensitive State Forest areas, and recovery plans for threatened and endangered plant species.1. Responsible for state-wide ecological and conservation planning on state forest land including High Conservation Value Forest areas and other ecologically-sensitive areas. 2. Responsible for coordination of state-wide ecological assessments and similar projects within the Pennsylvania Natural Heritage Program (PNHP), including project management, assisting with fieldwork and review and approval of project deliverables. 3. Manages DCNR grants and contracts related to funding the PNHP. Coordinates the development and submission of grant proposals for federal programs (US EPA, US FWS, NRCS) in support of PNHP. 4. Coordinates with the Natural Heritage Section Chief in the assessment and evaluation of the PNHP, including the periodic review and update of the PNHP strategic and operational plans. 5. Prepares letters, reports, memos, and develops website content to exchange information about the PNHP program to staff, supervisors, stakeholders, elected officials and to the public. 6. Coordinates PNHP and Natural Heritage Section activities with other staff and programs within Bureau of Forestry and the Conservation Science and Ecological Resources Division as appropriate to maintain good communication and develop opportunities for collaboration and synergy.
