I have 35+ years of experience in aquatic biology primarily focused on the utility industry including hydroelectric, nuclear, coal fired and co-gen plants. I have a broad background with strong expertise and knowledge in FERC relicensing, NPDES permitting, fisheries and water quality studies and project management. I also have strong skills in natural resources negotiations, study plan development, technical writing and public speaking. I have excellent field skills in all types of terrestrial and aquatic field surveys. American Fisheries Certified Fisheries Scientist.Currently owner of a natural resources consulting firm conducting a variety of environmental tasks related to fisheries, water quality, wildlife, recreation and land management. Current main project is acting as senior resource biologist assisting in various fisheries evaluation studies for a new trap and haul upstream fish ladder at a hydroelectric project. Work includes testing of various fish ladder operational scenarios; surgical insertion of PIT and radio telemetry tags; gas bubble trauma necropsies; team lead/boat captain for weekly electrofishing on large fast water river for collection of target species (bull trout, west slope cutthroat trout and mountain whitefish); T&E fish handling; transport of target species to release locations; data interpretation and various monthly and annual report writing activities.Other projects include support with designing, planning and managing warm water stream reclamation efforts and fish habitat improvements in southwest MI including development of HCP for endangered mussel specie); groundwater remediation efforts through artificial wetland development and wetland vegetation plantings. Recent past work includes managing and evaluating private warm water sport fishery reservoirs in GA; quality assurance professional on a USACOE stream bank restoration project aiding a listed salmonid population in CA; stream restoration monitoring, stream habitat surveys, stream gage installation, water gauging, warm and coldwater fisheries studies, radio telemetry and PIT tag surveys related to hydroelectric projects and utility clients and development of wildlife management plans and food plots for various clients.
