Optica, founded in 1916, is a global leader in advancing optics and photonics, dedicated to promoting the generation, application, archiving, and dissemination of knowledge related to the science of light. Serving scientists, engineers, business professionals, and students worldwide, Optica drives scientific, technical, and educational achievements through renowned publications, meetings, online resources, and in-person activities.Seeking a global affairs role in a sector where I could make a meaningful impact, I was drawn to Optica's reputation for excellence and commitment to long-term learning. Their core values—innovation, integrity, inclusivity, and impact—resonated with me, and I eagerly accepted the opportunity to join the organization. As the Senior Manager of Global Affairs, I develop and lead programs to advance public policy, laws, and budgets supporting optics and photonics science and technology worldwide. Collaborating with Optica leadership and volunteers, I manage relationship building, policy research, public presentations, program implementation, and results tracking to meet strategic goals.I am excited about this opportunity to:► Develop and execute Optica’s international public policy programs and strategies that forward the organization’s global priorities, working closely with the Optica global community.► Launch the next phase of the Global Environmental Measurement and Monitoring (GEMM) initiative’s goal to implement technologies globally for monitoring and addressing issues related to climate change and environmental sustainability.► Collaborate with Optica’s Public Affairs Council and the International Photonics Advisory Committee (IPAC) to bring together experts from industry, academia, and government to educate policymakers and influencers about photonics technologies, and advocate for funding for optics and photonics initiatives.

Ceo & Founder | Global Benchmarking, Financing, Partnerships, Advocacy, Stakeholder Management

Seny Consulting International engages public and private sector clients to identify and deploy global solutions to local challenges solutions via benchmarking, financing and creative coalition-building. Seny, an ancient Catalan word, is one of my favorites. It represents the values that I want the company to reflect: a combination of wisdom, integrity, perseverance and common sense.Discoveries I made in my prior roles led me to create Seny. I consistently observed that:• Public Administrations around the globe — particularly but not exclusively local administrations — were not taking advantage of international opportunities for engagement, finance and benchmarking to strengthen their domestic policy goals. • Private Sector clients were likewise not taking advantage of international public & private expansion opportunities. That’s when I realized that I had the savvy, experience and network to arm public and private sector stakeholders with the international engagement strategies they need to ensure their success. I envisioned ways to support local policy priorities — from waste-to-energy plants to public markets, infrastructure improvements, city branding, talent attraction and smart cities technologies — by leveraging my knowledge of and access to international stakeholders and resources. In my role I successfully advised:► Private Sector clients on global finance alternatives to local Public/Private Partnership opportunities.► A Partner Consulting firm on Public Sector expansion across Latin America► Public Administration and Multilateral Institutions on internationalization, branding and talent attraction strategies.

Adjunct Lecturer Of European Studies (Ees) | International Affairs & Global Migration Policies

Washington, Dc, Us

The politics of migration has always fascinated me, and it eventually became one of my principal focuses as an academic. While I had left academia for a government posting in 2008, I still followed migration and refugee policy with interest, and for some time had been interested in identifying adjunct teaching opportunities. In 2014, I had anticipated the need for a migration-focused course in European Studies, and pitched the idea to the head of the department at Johns Hopkins SAIS. Although there wasn’t course availability at the time, he reached out to me at the inception of the European refugee crisis and asked me to teach the course. The focus of the course was to contextualize post-WWII migration and refugee policies in Europe, both from a comparative politics perspective (looking at specific EU member state policies) as well as from a multilateral one (explaining positioning and actions of various UN and other multilateral institutions, in addition to the European Union), with a strong focus on the refugee crisis of 2015-16.It was a privilege to be able to teach future international leaders in both the public and private sectors, about Post-WWII migration and refugee policy while following the crisis, and political decisions being made in response, in real time.
