I lead the manufacturing and logistics operations at our Brisbane site.

I support production operations with all engineering and technical services. That ensures short and long terms targets are met on time and within budget in a safe, hygienic, and quality controlled environment.

Manufacturing life-changing products that help people all around the world. In this role I work with a wide range of people, coaching them as a high performance team to ensure the highest quality and delivery. I'm responsible for achieving daily and weekly production targets, implementing improvement initiatives, developing and engaging employees, and ensuring work practices are productive and efficient.

I moved back to Brisbane from Perth with my family and while looking for the right opportunity I started my own business to provide management consulting services in the areas of manufacturing and industrial relations. It was difficult and rewarding work and I'm glad to have pursued it for as long as I did. I was able to improve the employment conditions for employers and employees, finding common ground and clarity in the successfully negotiated agreements.

This was one of my favourite roles. I looked after execution of all transformer production from the moment it was finished in design. My team included procurement, planning, production, production engineering, maintenance, and facilities. I developed good working relationships with the unions through two enterprise agreements; including simplifying one from more than 170 pages down to fewer than 30 without losing a single entitlement.Second to that achievement, I enjoyed improving the factory capacity and profitability. One production line more than tripled its output as a result. I worked with some great people to meet this target and deliver for the company and the customer.

My role expanded to include all my previous work as well as management of the design team. I used lean thinking during the implementation of ABB design systems and improving the on-time delivery from the design team. We also provided support to the sales tendering teams in the utility and industrial market segments.

This was my first management role. I looked after safety, environment, quality, and business improvements throughout the Australian transformers business unit. That included ongoing compliance with certifications [Quality (ISO 9001), Environment (ISO 14001), and Safety (ISO 18001)]. I worked extensively with suppliers to improve their performance, as well as benchmarking ABB manufacturing operations around the world for quality and operational excellence. Perhaps some of the most interesting work here was taking on student engineers and graduate engineers. Their energy and drive was amazing and I learnt as much from them as they did from us.

I joined ABB as part of the production engineering team. We looked after three operations, in Brisbane, Perth, and Sydney. While there I implemented principles of lean and theory of constraints in the factory, cutting factory throughput time in half and delivering annual savings of over $500k in other projects.I also spent some time on the OHS Committee.

I took on a similar role to previous work, looking after design and maintenance of production equipment for hearing aids. I also gave technical support for production personnel across fourteen production lines, including quality control processes and yield improvement.

My first professional job! I looked after design and maintenance of production and test equipment. We made electronic power meters and ripple control receivers. I developed production equipment and wrote software to automate it. I also worked with suppliers the production of plastic housings and PCAs.
