The last 8 years I have worked in information technology in the public sector. The first 5 years were spent working in GIS where tasks ranged from field data collection and drone piloting, to database and server management. My biggest interest in GIS, however, is web GIS - creating web maps and applications using ESRI's ArcGIS platform. I quickly in my career found the utility web GIS has over traditional GIS in its ease of sharing and dynamic nature compared to static paper maps. Because of my interest in web GIS I gradually transitioned to a broader developer role within our organization.My current role, held for the last 3 years, is that of information systems developer. This role involves mostly JavaScript development, building React and Node.js applications, SQL database design, and some Python scripting. I am able to call on my GIS experience using the ArcGIS API for JavaScript to create different mapping products for various applications. Linux server administration with Nginx reverse proxy and load balancing.
