October 2014 - March 2016 We left Japan considerably later than intended due to my daughters medical condition. Time spent caring for her and setting up again. Moved to Sussex from Bucks to pursue educational opportunities for her disability. Lived on savings.

I have been asked to do other work in Japan aside from teaching. These include looking after and arranging for a large group of motor racing tourists from the UK when they visited Suzuka for the Formula 1 race. This was arranged with a well-known specialist British tour operator. Also a side line in exporting back European rare and sports cars from Japan to the UK.

As a business owner my responsibilities were all encompassing. My purest task each day was teaching the large number of students that we built up. Students ranged in age from 3 years to over 70. We imposed excellent standards and as a result maintained and grew a very loyal group of long term customers. I made ultimate decisions on curriculum, advertising and lesson plans. A lot of time was used to make myself aware of our extensive competition in the local area and tailor our offer accordingly. As well as this I also secured work with the local education board and spent many mornings teaching large numbers of children at local schools. At all times I was the face of the school and represented our business in Japanese or English

This was a pure sales role and specialised in direct sell, long haul luxury travel. Top selling destinations were the Caribbean, Dubai, Thailand and the USA. Among a large group of people I was the consistently the top sales person or if not the leader then second or third. We tried very hard to out sell each other every day. We used an in-house system that was linked to Galileo. I very much loved this job and excelled however my life next took me to Japan.

Although my role was sales as we were a small business, naturally I had the opportunity to take a part in all aspects of the business. It was my responsibility to create and look after sales from beginning to departure and any needed customer service thereafter. Our focus was on high value bookings to exclusive destinations combined with delivering outstanding service. We utilised our own 'ATOL` license to put together packages with net rates, so as to place our profit exactly. Feeling rather entrepreneurial and with big dreams I used this facility to set up a tour operator with the owners permission to South Korea (very under-represented). I learned a lot of new skills during this period and the end result was impressive. I had a contract with Korean Air for net rates as well as funding from the KNTO (Korean National Tourist Office). We set about producing 3,000 brochures and advertising in the national press. After some time it was my desire to seek employment with a larger company which I soon secured.

This was a working holiday. I worked various jobs to include bank staff, advertising for exhibitions, salesman and fruit picker. It is of course the nature of a working holiday visa to take on many different kinds of jobs. more interesting than the job I did is that I managed to see Australia extensively and also met my future wife here.
