Achieving this involves making connections across different clinical areas and with university and Industry partners regionally and nationally that result in successful grant applications.

As part of the delivery of the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund (ISCF) in “Data to Early Diagnosis and Precision Medicine”, Innovate UK has invested £50 million to establish a network of 5 centres of excellence in digital pathology and/or medical imaging, including radiology. These 5 centres use digital systems and artificial intelligence (AI) to improve diagnosis and deliver precision treatments. UHCW successfully led a consortium of academic, NHS and industry partners to secure a £15 million research award to lead the PathLAKE (Pathology image data Lake for Analytics, Knowledge and Education) centre of excellence in digital pathology and AI, which was launched in January 2019. The PathLAKE consortium has now secured further funding to scale up the centre of excellence to expand the network to further NHS Trusts – PathLAKE Plus. My role is to facilitate the acceleration and scale-up of the work already performed by PathLAKE and strengthen partnerships with NHS trusts, enabling the flow of accessible data for use in research and the development of AI diagnostics technology. My duties includes overseeing PathLAKE Plus operational plans (ensuring project initiatives are delivered on time, to quality standards and in a cost-effective manner), financial management and procurement, ensuring effective communication with staff, partners and external stakeholders, and coordination with the PathLAKE Centre of Excellence.

Responsibilities include the production, co-ordination, and presentation of lecture material suitable for students undertaking an MSc in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Coventry. Lecture material focuses on the application of genomic technologies in both a clinical and academic setting, along with associated workshops to help students gain experience in handling large amounts of “clinical” data.

Responsibilities include the co-ordination, organisation and provision of histopathology resources for research purposes, record keeping and performing basic laboratory duties as directed by the laboratory supervisor. Additional tasks involve screening and taking informed consent from patients into research projects, co-ordinating the collection of tissue and promoting working practices that ensure Trust Human Tissue Act compliance. Over the years my responsibilities have expanded to cover data management; managing a team that coordinated the running of the national ChOPIN trial, clinical research auditing, liaising with multiple departments to help build a strong work culture that is very pro-active in terms of research, performing routine histology techniques, research governance, writing SOP’s and designing/teaching courses to ensuring that research nurses follow best practice in terms of blood processing/centrifugation (in addition to providing safety lectures in the use of dry ice and liquid nitrogen). Relevant to this position, my duties also include digital scanning of pathology/research slides using SYSMEX slide scanners, working to troubleshoot any issues that arise due to hardware/software issues and performing quality control reviews of the resulting images. In addition, my role has adapted to include bringing the tissue bank into compliance with the newly developed ISO standards for tissue banking and being an active member of the ISO UKAS Steering Committee that coordinates the national implementation of the standard. As a result of COVID-19 pandemic, my role has adapted to include problem solving to meet the needs of the coordinated UHCW COVID response and being “fluid” in the ways in which we support research in these troubling times.

Key responsibilities included providing assistance in the central glass preparation areas of the Clinical Sciences Research Laboratories, as well as an efficient disposal and sterilisation service of infected materials and contaminated equipment.

Key skills and responsibilities include tractor driving, manual labour, preparing farm equipment, calibrating diagnostic equipment and ensuring that farm equipment was operated safely.

Key responsibilities include assisting the pathology department reception desk and processing received samples, whilst gaining experience of a pathology lab and applied science in a working environment. Other benefits of the position include being able work as a part time clinical attaché to gain ward experience (from both a clinical and social perspective) by accompanying doctors on their rounds.
