I was an independent consultant working with clients to develop and implement corporate strategies that deliver their commercial goals aligned with social and environmental success.

I established a vibrant and distinctive point of view and approach for purpose at Edelman. I developed and led a team of specialist talent, directly increasing revenues for the firm, working with companies to take action on social and environmental challenges, and communicate creatively to inspire action and engage people. I built the purpose practice by creating a ‘go to market' strategy to secure new business and successfully win and deliver significant new assignments.I worked with a range of global businesses and brands, advising how to use their power to take action on social and environmental challenges and communicate creatively in a way that inspires action and engages people. Specific assignments included Nissan (developing business purpose), Samsung (creating a global narrative for the sustainability team) and Shell (Nature Based Solutions).

As a member of the executive team, I was responsible for ensuring the commercial success of a fast-growing sustainability consultancy with a team of around 50 people with operations in London, New York, San Francisco, Singapore and Santiago. I was personally responsible for setting up the West Coast office, expanding operations across the US. As a strategy consultant specialising in sustainability, I worked with senior leaders in a range of multinational companies helping them to develop a world class approach to corporate citizenship and sustainable development. I was able to build long-term relations with key clients, such as Abbott the healthcare company. I helped to develop and implement a world-leading sustainability strategy to enhance the company’s positive impact on society. Working with the corporate team, we delivered workshops to senior leaders to build engagement in the fast-growing markets of India, China, Brazil and Russia. This work delivered global consistency in the company’s approach and resulted in Abbott achieving Global Industry Leader status in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index over consecutive years. DJSI is the most prestigious global benchmark for corporate sustainability.

When I joined Ashridge, the international business school based in the UK, the issue of sustainability was absent from the executive education agenda. In order to address this gap, I created the Centre for Business and Society and built this business unit to generate annual revenues of over £1 million, employing a large team to undertake world-renowned research and provide consultancy services. The Centre continues to flourish and is recognised as one of the earliest global authorities on sustainability issues, partnering with institutions such as the United Nations to help business leaders manage the implications of global change for commercial success and societal wellbeing.During my time at Ashridge, I fundamentally changed the position of sustainability across the organisation, helping to create an Executive MBA that had the subject at its heart. At the time, the EMBA programme was ranked in the top 5 in the UK, top 10 in Europe and top 25 worldwide in the Financial Times assessment.
