I am a qualified Air Traffic Controller and have been working for NATS in the UK for the past 16.5 years, working alongside my colleagues in close-knit teams in a high intensity, safety critical environment, managing competing priorities, making decisions quickly and accurately and delivering an important service to our customers. I am an air traffic control instructor, a rewarding and challenging role where I get to be creative, a leader and role model and must adapt and learn with each new student. In addition to being an air traffic controller, since 2016 I have been a lead expert in the development and deployment of new air traffic control systems in the UK with the responsibility for requirements development, system testing and system implementation. I was responsible for managing the team that designed the new ATC operations room at NATS’ Swanwick Centre. I am currently working on the development of two new voice communications systems for use by UK air traffic control and lead the end user testing and approval of these systems. I am also developing HMI interfaces for our new control system, have designed and tested end user workstation designs and help to develop the conflict detection and coordination tools for air traffic controllers. I have been a project work package manager responsible for line management, recruitment of new team members and managing the team resource. I manage the training and tasking of our operational core teams for work on our development projects. There is a great deal of variety to the work I do which is fun, challenging and rewarding all at the same time. I enjoy taking responsibility, especially where safety is concerned, and being the leader and face of changes that we are implementing into our operations.I am keen to learn new skills and building relationships with different people. I love being a dad and role model to my children. Outside of work I spend time with my family and friends. I play golf, cycle and use the gym. I like to work where I can get hands on, take the lead as much as possible and work with capable colleagues to deliver great results.
