The Legal Innovation Zone (LIZ) is a global hub focused on building better legal solutions for the consumers of legal services. The LIZ helps support, foster and develop solutions and techniques to improve legal services and the justice system and was the world’s first legal tech incubator.

The Dean's Advisory Council provides advice and assistance to the dean and the college relating to the activities and strategic direction of the College of Law. This includes giving advice and feedback pertaining to the academic programs of the college, the relationship of the college with external stakeholders in various communities, alumni relations and development activities.

The State Bar Board of Trustees established the Task Force on Access Through Innovation of Legal Services (ATILS) in July 2018 to develop recommendations for regulatory changes to enhance the delivery of—and access to—legal services through the use of technology, including artificial intelligence, and online legal service delivery models. That effort culminated in a series of actions in early 2020, including the establishment of the Closing the Justice Gap Working Group. The working group is charged with addressing the following in California:• Exploring the development of a regulatory sandbox.• Considering amendments to rule 5.4 regarding fee sharing.• Issuing for public comment a new rule 5.7 addressing the delivery of nonlegal services provided by lawyers and businesses owned or affiliated with lawyers.• Considering recommendations for amendments to the Certified Lawyer Referral Service statutes and Rules of the State Bar.
