"I build things and I fix things," was the answer to my daughter.Typical of a five-year-old's questioning, she wanted to know what I did at work all day. ★ I do what I love ★The essence of engineering is to leverage God's well-ordered world, in the form of physics, dynamics, mathematics, logic, etc., to create solutions to problems. In years gone by, people who did this were often called inventors. Inventors solving problems - even less-than-earth-shattering problems. "Necessity is the mother of invention," they used to say, and it really is that simple. I am an inventor. I am passionate about many things in my life, and engineering outranks most.I love this about engineering. I enjoy designing and implementing solutions to problems. I love elegant design. I appreciate simplicity. I prize dirtying my hands building new creations, and fixing the old ones. I savor the opportunity to teach others about how and why things work.Today, I engineer vocationally by plying myself to Software and Electrical Engineering. I write programs for machines, vehicles, mobile devices, and the PC/desktop. Each program is an opportunity to solve a problem, learn something new, build something great, and do what I was made to do. Engineering is my service to God and Mankind.Because I feel strongly about service in vocation, I have also devoted myself to service through firefighting/EMS. I know that most people don't understand the drive to volunteer in this fashion. They see glamor, red lights, and/or power. I see people in need, a chance to grow in unimaginable ways, and a deep satisfaction in helping others solve their problems in times of great crisis. Today I ply myself also to volunteer firefighting for these reasons. They drive me also, as a fire instructor, to train the next generation of selfless heroes for a lifetime of effective and safe service to the community. You'll see my fire experience interspersed below. Thanks for stopping by!Andrew
