Full-time summer vacation internship.One of the projects undertaken includes updating data models and working with Microsoft SQL Server 2008; this entails creating database update scripts that ensures future rollouts will update successfully regardless of the current version used by clients; also it involves creating a data model that makes the database metadata accessible by other products, in particular the REST server and the data management system.Another project undertaken was the development of a cross-platform tablet applications using HTML5 (utilising CSS3 and JS) with a MVVM framework in order to simplify the data capture required to be undertaken by mine site operators; allowing for live data integration into analysis and reporting systems.The project involved interfacing with REST services, enhancing the REST service using C#, Graphical manipulation, writing test cases / user stories / applying bug fixes, working in a team environment, applying best practice architectural design patterns to manage complexity, utilising subscribe/publish patterns to update state, syncing metadata and data between local and remote server over an unreliable network connection, collecting data, validation and more.The position involved managing and reporting of development tasks, meeting deadlines, collaborating, analysing & understanding requirements of a product or client, using various version control systems (git and hg) and engaging in effective communication.

The project I undertook was to design and develop a system to replace propriety software that was responsible for managing the research centres inbound photography and associated data.The end product was a multi-threaded background process using the producer-consumer pattern to maximise parallelism, thoroughly checked and optimised for performance. The meta data extracted was stored in a relational database, thumbnails were generated, the key words were stored in a keyword table with a link to the parent concept; all simultaneously yet modularly.
