I'm a software developer and entrepreneur with a passion for business. I've spent the last twenty years designing and developing web, desktop and SaaS applications, including four years starting, running, merging and exiting a micro-ISV. In 2003, I founded Microsoft software shop Nexsys Development, which in 2004 merged with Calcium Software. I enjoy being involved in all aspects of the software development lifecycle, but I like to focus on the cross-over between business and software – understanding business objectives and strategies, and architecting and delivering software in line with this. I joined Xero (www.xero.com) in January 2007. Xero is an online accounting platform, which listed on the New Zealand Stock Exchange in June 07. Xero is delivering smart and savvy business tools into the hands of small business owners, who are the hardest working people in the economy and who the big technology providers have not catered for. I hold a Bachelor of Science, majoring in computer science, and a Bachelor of Commerce and Accounting, majoring in accountancy, both from Victoria University of Wellington.Specialties: My career has focussed on the cross-over between business and software – understanding business objectives and strategies, and architecting and delivering software in line with this.
