Just In Time PR was a technology startup focused on building and operating a web platform (www.sviews.co) that allowed British SMEs to gain exposure in national, regional and trade media. This was done by reacting to breaking news stories and presenting the clients' expert views to relevant journalists with a very quick turnaround. The business was spun off in early 2013 from its sister company Rhizome PR, a small but successful full service PR agency, and was able to place expert analyses and comments in media such as the BBC, Evening Standard, Guardian, and Reuters.I joined the company right from the start and, as the sole technical member of staff, these were my main contributions:▪ On-going development of the company's core web application over the entire application lifecycle from requirements analysis to production operations and support.▪ Responsible for all aspects of the web application (in other words, the full technology stack) including user experience, web design, software design and development, database design and administration, cloud-based infrastructure and deployment.▪ Streamlined day-to-day business tasks by building custom functionality that replaced two commercial web services (Brief Your Market and Gorkana) within a single integrated website that serviced over 100 clients.▪ Created and maintained client-specific media centre mini-sites including all their media statements and contact information.

Developed a groundbreaking on-demand digital card printing solution, TSYS Card Shop, that reduced the time to market for new card products from several months to as little as 5 to 10 days. In the early stages of the project, I had to research industry standard card manufacturing processes such as lamination, stamping, encoding and embossing. In particular, I gained in-depth knowledge of printing technologies such as Postscript, ICC color profiles. I developed the prototype application on my own as an R&D project using Ruby on Rails, MySQL and Apache. Later, I led a team of 3 developers using ASP.NET MVC, C#, SQL Server building the production version of the solution. To this date, the solution has produced over 1 million cards, creating an entirely new line of business for the client.Developed the multi-client solution, AllAboutMe Personal Card Solution (PCS), which is now the standard platform for all card customization implementations not just at Serverside but also at Gemalto. Building on my previous experience developing solutions tailored for individual financial institutions, I set out to productize our card customization technology at Serverside along with a business development colleague from our New York office, and increase the speed and ease in setting up new clients with a core card customization workflow. TBA Informatica is a Microsoft partner specialized in custom application development.As a contractor, I had the opportunity to work on two main projects. First, I developed a web application providing digital access to patients’ clinical exam results and medical records for Hospital Sírio Libanês, one of Brazil’s top private hospitals. I was able to turn around the project that was already running late when I joined, taking over project management as well as technical duties. I reset the stakeholder's expectations, established a revised schedule, implemented the web application (leading another mid-level developer) and delivered a high quality end result successfully within the new schedule.Following that, I worked on the development of a large scale web database application for the Sao Paulo State Judiciary system to store all the running information about the first instance civil lawsuits and their related proceedings. The team had nearly 10 staff, comprising developers, project manager, database, and configuration and release expert. I developed a wide range of features, liaising with key users from requirements analysis, through implementation all the way to acceptance testing. We managed to successfully deliver the solution according to the agreed specification and timelines, inspite of the initial scepticism of some stakeholders and the highly charged political environment surrounding the project.Both projects used a standard Microsoft 3 tier architecture with ASP.NET, C# and SQL Server.

BR Express was a small tech startup that developed logistic software for the freight and transport industry. They provided mapping solutions and tools to optimize delivery routes before the widespread availability of tools like Google or Bing Maps. During the very beginning of the company, I created proof-of-concept prototypes of their map routing solution. Over the years, I continued to provide ad hoc consulting services (working out of hours) developing their core software. This software provided optimized point-to-point and multi-stop routes for the Brazilian urban and highway networks. Zip.net was one of the largest internet portals during the first internet boom in Brazil. Named after its main product, Zipmail, the company was acquired by Portugal Telecom and later on merged with a major rival, UOL.I was hired as a Unix web developer to work on core features for Zipmail.com.br, one of Brazil’s largest free webmail with over 5 million registered users and multi-terabyte data storage. Some of my main contributions were:▪ Migrating Zipmail from a Microsoft technology stack to a Unix based one with Perl, Apache and Oracle running on Solaris.▪ Implemented a middleware layer in C using BEA Tuxedo to increase data throughput and website performance.▪ Led a team of 4 developers and DBA to completely redesign the user database and improve data consistency and data access performance.Given my flexibility to work with different technologies, I was assigned to lead a 2 man team in the pre-launch development of Pelé.net, a football news and information portal part of the legendary footballer’s brand. The website used classic ASP, Visual Basic and Visual C++ COM based components, and SQL Server on Windows servers. InfoExame is Brazil’s largest circulation computer monthly magazine, covering a wide range of technology topics from the latest personal computers and devices to enterprise solutions.Along with another intern and a senior technical manager, I was part of the team that first set up a testing lab at InfoExame. Previously, the journalists had to rely heavily on vendor supplied information such as press releases when writing their articles. Our aim was to build up an independent technical capability and improve the magazine's reputation and reader satisfaction and loyalty.
