About Andrew Shields
Experimentation driven Product Manager with 10+ years of PM, Developer, and QA experience, a proven track record of solving real problems, and a lot of passion. I am passionate about technology that truly delights people and enables people to do amazing things. I am also passionate about companies that take calculated risks to push technology forward. I strive to embody these ideas every day. But how did I become passionate about these things?That question is best answered with a little background information. I went to college as a math major, but during my second year, I had to drop one of the higher level math classes required for my degree. This was a shock to me as I had always been good at math, but when I was introduced to theoretical math, I realized that I was lost. It took a lot of self reflection to understand that I wasn't passionate about math. I was passionate about solving problems. This led me to programming where I could solve problems using technology, so I switched and graduated with a CS degree.But it wasn't until I started at Microsoft that I was introduced to Product Management. I got to see this role of mystery that got to communicate and work with clients, and I wanted to know more. I began to have 1 on 1s with every PM I could find to understand more about the role and why they became one. During this time, I realized that I didn't just have a passion for solving problems. I also had a passion for working with clients, users, stakeholders, and anyone else to identify real problems and solve them in amazing ways.This spark is what led me to become a Product Manager. My passion to understand the "Why" behind everything continues to fuel me forward. That is why I got an MBA. I wanted to have a foundation of the "Why" behind each area of a business. And that is why I continue to push myself to grow as a Product Manager.When I am not working, I like to keep things simple. Whether that is taking a walk with my wife and our pups, lifting weights, playing games, or enjoying some Dungeons & Dragons with friends.
