I worked as a part of Etsy's search engine infrastructure team, where I worked with Java, Elasticsearch, and Solr to implement solutions to help people find what they're looking for on etsy.com. In this internship I enabled term searching within shop names, reduced shop search latency by up to 80% in some high-latency queries, and took the initiative to build out onboarding documentation for new hires, including two full codelab tutorials.

I oversaw the operations of the student-run radio station 91.1FM, WMUA Amherst. This involves managing station funds, coordinating with administration, running director meetings with ~12 people, and running/presenting at station-wide meetings with ~100 people. In my work as general manager, I initiated a station-wide focus on goals and outreach. This involved starting cross-department committees in order to accomplish overarching tasks, investing more in events, and setting up collaborative meetings with other organizations. We boosted concert attendance by between 6 and 7 times the previous year's average attendance, budget-wise broke even on concert funding, and, for the first time in my undergraduate career, got funding from the university for our 2019-2020 concerts based on my budget proposal.

I oversaw all of WMUA's non-broadcasting technical equipment and software. This involves troubleshooting with station technology, communicating with fellow directors to achieve station goals, helping members of WMUA with technology-based issues, and working on projects for the advancement of non-broadcast technology within the station. One big impact I had as tech director was piloting outreach programs with our equipment. This meant loaning our audio equipment (speakers, mixers, mics, etc) to other student organizations for their events free of charge in order to better serve our student body. Through this program we saved a Protect Our Breasts breast cancer awareness yoga event more than 50% of their budget, which they were going to spend on a professional audio engineer, just by letting them use otherwise-dormant equipment. This program went on to generate revenue for WMUA for some for-profit events that we charged money to help with.

I worked on a team of four interns within data solutions at Optum, as part of UnitedHealth Group. We have been working on projects within data solutions, specifically using the ELK stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana) and the MERN stack (Mongo, Express, React, Node), in order to help the company work visualize logs with the largest source of healthcare data in the world.In our time, my team started a passion project that would help find geographic trends in illness, which got funded to be continued through our internship and potentially picked up by future internal teams.
