Works collaboratively to build a strategy for the team and manage team workload with an aim to advance fire planning efforts and integration with natural resource planning efforts in the Service and with interagency partners.Serves as the senior subject matter expert for the Branch on matters related to fire management plans (FMPs), planning policy, and integration with Refuge management planning efforts. Serves on task teams, work groups, and panels. Represents the Service as needed at agency, interagency, and intergovernmental functions.Serve as the Branch subject matter expert for environmental compliance. Provides guidance and direction to ensure that FMPs are consistent with and complement land and resource management plans, enabling laws, policies, regulations, and environmental mandates (e.g., National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Clean Air Act, National Historic Preservation Act, etc.).Serves as the Branch subject matter expert for implementation of the National Fire Danger Rating System (NFDRS), including review of and recommendations for standards and system adjustments, Fire Danger Operating Plan standards, and other fire danger tools to inform and support fire management decisions.Responsible for policy and direction for use of the Wildland Fire Decision Support System by the FWS.Applies knowledge of wildland fire systems, processes, and workflows to identify and achieve data management and reporting efficiencies.Maintains fire line and incident management team qualifications to provide support where necessary and maintain subject matter expertise in the fire management domain.
