Conducted research on fire adapted ecosystems in the southeastern US coastal plain. Developed recommendations, supported by spatial analysis, for implementing prescribed fire and reducing the risk of wildland fire. Supported ecosystem management efforts by the US Fish and Wildlife Service and US Department of Defense. Conducted forest inventories in some of the wildest places in the southeast.

Developed GIS procedures and spatial data sets in support of the Southeast Gap Analysis Project (SEGAP).
