Joining a team of 3 SME developers, working on a large data warehouse backed application, I had a steep learning curve to tackle in a short time. I worked hard to build my knowledge and quickly integrate myself in to the team to become a useful part of the next release cycle. Now working with the team, I engage with the business to analyze requirements, design and develop solutions and test and implement systems within agreed frameworks. I’ve taken the development lead role for a 2 year £12mm project to implement IFRS9 and isolate the impairment models from the RIFT application that we support. RIFT is a large data processing application spread across 10 application servers, 2 IIS servers and an Oracle database. It is coded in VB.net and designed making extensive use of the MEF framework and .net generics. My role requires that I work as an assistant team lead, taking charge of delivery timelines and working closely with the business to coordinate user acceptance testing. My presence with the business and my ability to explain technical issues in a non-technical way has placed me as the go to person for RIFT queries. Outside of my day to day role, I participate in numerous projects to improve the department as a whole. These include my personal drive to introduce a much needed version control system to the data warehouse development team and work as a departmental technical contact for the planned upgrade of the banks aging window XP infrastructure to windows 7. I am also one of only three none management colleagues that sit on a senior management steering group designed to bring the BI department to the forefront in terms of technology and customer support.

Utopia Bathroom Group is one of the leading bathroom furniture manufactures in the UK with two sites based in Wolverhampton and a site recently closed in Glasgow. Taking responsibility over a small team of developers I worked on projects spread over the three sites, ranging from small input validation screens, to full productions control, accounting and work in progress systems. Previous projects have included automated invoice generation from dispatched goods and a stock take control system using windows mobile devices, cutting the time taken to stock take from two days to one.

Hired to help around the department I quickly took charge of replacing and upgrading older IT systems around the company. Working with the IT manager to gain his trust and prove my skills as an IT technician. I took on the challenge of teaching myself VB.net and Omnis 7 eventually taking first my MCAD, then my MCSD the following year.
