Overview This position involved working in a multi-discipline clinical laboratory, which includes haematology (including cell morphology), blood bank and clinical biochemistry (including managing point of care systems) within a 24/7 roster including weekend/public holiday and on call. Results are interpreted and reported to the appropriate stakeholders in a time sensitive manner as well as phoning critical and/or abnormal results. Skills/Experience This position is an extension to the pathology aide position previously undertaken involving interpreting biochemical results, haematology/coagulation results and blood banking. Connected from the validation of results for appropriate stakeholders is the application of quality management system components such as the analysis of quality control parameters and the use of regional and external quality assurance programs. Non-analytic tasks within this position involve the liaising with staff concerning a change in work flow or the organisation of a on demand sample transport and the management of stock (biological and non-biological).

OverviewThis position involved performing haematological and biochemical/immunoassay testing.Skills/Experience Within this position, it is my responsibility to assess samples for haematology and clinical biochemistry prior to testing in a time sensitive environment as well as participating in the training of new staff. Haematological testing involved full blood counts, manual blood smears/staining (short/paediatric samples, clotted samples, malarial and Kleihauer tests) and ESR’s and coagulation studies. Clinical biochemistry testing involved analyses using automated and semi-automated systems. Aside from assisting with analyses this position involves participating in weekly/monthly maintenance schedules for automated high throughput analytical systems, managing general and onboard consumables as well as stock levels.
